You brought gyms into a conversation about bars vs outdoor protests. I said that I believed the protest did contribute to the spread of the virus, but that confined indoor spaces are potentially super spreaders. I never said only bars can spread it.
Alright, you obviously lack reading comprehension skills. Your reasoning behind why bars are worse than outdoor gatherings is fundamentally flawed based on there being no outbreaks in gyms. Your reasoning is wrong. 1,000 people in close proximity outdoors is worse than 100 people indoors

mean, my gym is limiting the number of people who can be in at the same time to 10. They're also taking temps.
I don't think bars are doing that.
Pretty much every where else is doing 25% or 50% of fire marshal capacity. The one I go to is overcrowded with 30 people. Yet per fire marshal then can fit 300. So their capacity is like 75 and they never come close to that even before covid

The onus for preventing contact between potential carriers and high-risk individuals seems to be shifting, fairly or not, from the first group to the second.
Which is the way it should have been from the get-go. This has been the single biggest over-hyped over-reaction since Y2K.

Where's the data that backs it up? I'm agreeing that the protests probably contributed to more cases. That doesn't mean that now crowding around in bars is safe.

I'm not sure that's true. I just googled it and this came right up. Without digging, it appears that there are probably outbreaks tied to gyms

During 24 days in Cheonan, South Korea, 112 persons were infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 associated with fitness dance classes at 12 sports facilities. Intense physical exercise in densely populated sports facilities could increase risk for infection. Vigorous exercise in confined spaces should be minimized during outbreaks.
But even if gyms are "safe" to open, that doesn't really mean the bars are "safe." Those two things are not necessarily equal.

So we agree. That's all I said.
Nope, that's not all you said. Don't lie.
You said

Everything I've read is that indoor transmission is worse than outdoor. The protests definitely contributed to the spread of the virus, but packed bars is a recipe for a super spreader event.
I disagree. We currently do not (and never will) have any way to know the protests/riots vs bar patrons impact on case increase.
Point being your assertion that packed bars are a potential super spreader event while not assuming that protests/riots are also potential super spreader events shows an implicit bias

We began active surveillance and focused on identifying possible COVID-19 cases and contacts. We interviewed consecutive confirmed cases and found all had participated in a fitness dance class. We traced contacts back to a nationwide fitness dance instructor workshop that was held on February 15 in Cheonan.
They traced it all back based off interviews. Literally could have picked it up anywhere. It’s physical impossible to locate where you contracted a virus. Which is why the argument is ridiculous that doing one thing is better than another to begin with. I will still take my chances sitting in a bar over protesting outside with 10x the people

I pointed out that bars are potential super spreaders because bars aren't going away while the protests are pretty much done... also because bars are more prevalent than protests even when protests are going on. If the protests were to continue for the foreseeable future in similar locations to bars that are crowded, I would think they'd be pretty close to the same level of culpability in spreading the virus.
side note, prevalent is a difficult word for me to spell just like occasion.

Agreed
You make a fair point in this last post and I think we agree in principle.
I certainly do hope the protests/riots are pretty much done as you say.
I guess we shall see.

My problem is there is absolutely no way for anyone to ever know which events (bars or protests/riots) have contributed to any case spike.
You can ask where people have been and plot it. I don't know if that's being done, but it's far from "absolutely no way."

quote:It probably is. A hundred people in a bar is probably only 20 square feet per person. A thousand people in the street might be 100 square feet per person. Plus in the bar the air recirculates, whereas outside it blows away.
You cannot possibly believe that 100 people going to a bar is worse than 1000 people congregated in the streets.
Also, 100 people in 50k bars is 5 million people, while 1000 people on 1000 streets is only a million. Numbers are obviously made up but should be obvious many more people are hitting the bars than protesting.
Also I'd be willing to bet that a higher percentage of protesters are wearing masks than people going to bars.
It's just not even close.

Once Biden gets elected, all the truth will come out and we can return to life as we new it in February

Oh look, another moron with no evidence to support the belief that a virus particle is strong enough to get sucked up and recirculated around a room, but not infect someone a few feet away outdoors.
Shits not sticking bud. Throw some more

I'm the moron? We have like a century of evidence that tell us what makes a virus more likely to spread, and a bar is a perfect storm. Generally crowded. Loud music so people have to be in very close proximity to hear each other. Dancing and close contact. Drunk people that don't give a frick. Dozens of people touching the same fricking surface over and over. Cash changing hands through the register and back out again to others. Hands on drinks repeatedly put to mouths.
You have got to be a complete idiot to think being outside with a lot of people is anywhere close to being in a bar as far as spreading viruses.
quote:Oh, and about this. What about the possibility of recirculation could make spread less likely? If people are near the intake, then everyone's breath is headed their way, and along the way it passes others. And besides that, just being indoors traps everything regardless. There's nowhere for particles to disperse to.

6300 people attended George Floyds funeral. I’m sure they never touched one another, shook hands, did any of that good stuff.
Keep justifying closing innocent businesses fricking dumb arse

LOL. Like a bunch of people pushing or sitting on a statue??!

quote:Are you really trying this? You just keep getting dumber. A hundred people pushing on a statue is not in the same universe as a hundred people touching all over a bartop. Everyone has to speak/yell inches above the bar, and all of it falls right on top of it. Right where everyone else touches.

So many small gatherings is worse than 6300 people. WOW!
Everyone hear this guy? Sacrifice all your small gatherings now, so we can gather 100,000k inside Tiger Stadium in the fall once a week. Instead of yelling and throwing rocks at police, we’ll be doing it at Texas
Excellent justification sir

of course you believe protestors aren’t the cause for the spike in cases
