just remember: you're basically flipping a coin that the marriage will work out well. good luck.
In all seriousness, this isn't exactly true. If you're both mature and understand what you're getting yourself into, you have a far greater chance of avoiding divorce than 50%.
That 50% figure combines tons of wtf marriages that drag down the number. I know because I was in one.

There are only two possible outcomes - either it works or it doesn't.

I am surprising my bawette with a marriage proposal next Saturday in Nola during the day. I am sitting here nervous and excited thinking about it. O-T faithful, help calm me down with rational thought. Everything is set and in place and ready for execution on August 4th
How long have you been together?
How old are each of you?
What’s your level of education? What’s hers?
Do either of you have children?
Let me help you

The divorce rate for first marriages is actually closer to 30%.

I’m reject it just on the principle that you say “NOLA”.

Haven't been there yet, but I think that you won't be nervous if it's the right one and time. You should just be excited.

Don't get too caught up with making sure everything goes 100% to plan
If you can live by this like 95% of engagement/wedding related stress will evaporate.
I was fully conscious that most of that stress is self-induced but it got to me anyway.
For engagements, keeping it simple is great. If you think you can do a simple proposal (it doesn't have to be cheap, just not a grand gesture) and she'll like it, it also bodes well for the type of person she is, IMO.

If she has any of these things, run away.
Daddy issues
Bad credit
Poor impulse control
Crazy eyes
Any sort of psychological issues
A poor relationship with her family

Don't freak him out
I was nervous, although not overly so. Maybe anxious is a better way to describe. If you've put a lot of thought into something, regardless of you have any real concern of a disaster, you'll have some nervousness most likely that accompanies investing in something so much.
