One of the parts about this that bothers me is that Bravo is glorifying this whole process by incorporating it into this season of the Real Housewives. They're making this couple look like the victims.
Edit: I also bet they only serve a fraction of those sentences.

Maybe they are victims, in a sense.
Why should they do jail time? Why not just fines and restitution like those in financial services that commit far more broad-reaching and socially destructive crimes?

THIS!

Because they lied...repeatedly...and with intent...before a bankruptcy court, for the purpose of defrauding creditors.

Everybody on their show should go to jail for putting so much crap on TV.

Well, the judge revoked their bankruptcy settlement. So in addition to jail time, they owe something like $13 million to creditors now.

was wondering how federal prison handles good behavior. I think in state prison they get a third off or more for good behavior. Not sure why i want to say federal doesn't though.

Will Mike the Situation receive a worse punishment?

GTFO. You sound like a sucker.

They got railroaded because they cannot fight the behemoth government, are pseudo celebrities, and can be used as an example. We let firms with powerful litigators simply pay fines after laundering drug cartel money and fraudulently rating toxic debt, but this guy deserves three years in the clink while his family goes destitute.
I like this.

Kind of like Bernie Madoff? Oh wait...

Quite similar allegations on a more grand scale were rampant throughout the financial crisis and subprime fallout, why was no jail time dished out there except for a few lackeys and small players?

its not like they are getting much jail time.
should they just have deported him? would that have been a better punishment?

No such thing as "good behavior" in federal prison. You have to serve at least 85% of your sentence no matter who you are.

Why are they getting any jail time when we have others knowingly doing worse fraudulent activities simply paying fines and restitution?
This guy will never work a decent job again because of the criminal record. Why does he deserve this when those that do the same on a more horrific and impactful scale just make donations to the government without criminal prosecution.
We have a massive drug war going, locking up any and all violators we can find, spending untold billions along the way--yet when we catch a global financial institution laundering money for cartels that commit horrific atrocities, we fine them and release a statement about how they are too powerful and important to prosecute.
