Re-homing fees also weed out assholes. If you aren’t willing to sacrifice some cash for a dog, you most likely won’t take care of it when it needs you.

I went though this when getting a dog awhile back. People have gotten ridiculous with the rehoming fee stuff. I got a pup and it was $150 rehoming fee.
I didn’t mind too much because he had already done two rounds of shots and vet visits, but I don’t understand the logic of charging a fee because you’re a cheap arse who didn’t research how much dogs cost to own. It’s not the buyer’s responsibility to offset your poor financial decision.

This. I get paying a rehoming fee to a person who takes in rescue dogs and pays for their medical needs before they are adopted out but a fee for a friend who is essentially dumping their dog b/c they are moving? That's a bit messed up IMO.

Yep. I see this a lot on Craigslist. I guess people want to make sure you put a financial investment into the dog (or cat) so the animal doesn't end up as Pitbull bait.
Seems kind of BS for a friend to be asking for one though., unless he's worried that you might end up giving it away to some less desirable (not your brother) down the line after he moves.

I was thinking that this was a dog coming from a shelter. That makes sense because I'm pretty sure they are usually non-profits, and they are just trying to cover expenses of operation. This dude is really weird and comes across as kind of shady, imo. I don't get it either.

That makes sense if you run a shelter or something, but if you are giving the dog to someone you already know then one would think that you already have some idea of their character. Then asking for a fee makes it seem like you are just trying to squeeze some money out of them. It's weird.

First of all, the guy is a liar. frick him and his dog. Second, are you sure your brother shouldn’t get a dog for himself? Does he even want one? That’s a huge responsibility. If he still lives at home, are your parents ok with this? Buying a pet dog for another person seems like something only parents should do for their kids.

This honest to God may be the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. He knows the guy and is going him a favor by taking the dog he no longer wants. The "friend is just trying to make a quick hundo.
