Can you explain to us non greek life folks what kind of shite they were allowed to do in the 80's that they can't do now?

I think they have loosened up a little bit, but when I was in school we went through a stretch where we couldn't hold any events at the house (parties, tailgates, etc). This is also when we couldn't tailgate on the parade grounds either. Then when they did let us have events at the house again, we were required to hire a 3rd party vendor to come sell us alcohol at said event.

In the 80s, there was an 18 year-old drinking age in Louisiana. So, everyone was allowed to drink to excess. There was no way anyone in the administration was going to go around fraternity houses carding people to see who was “legal.“ They just assumed everyone was legal, including the occasional high school kids who would find their way into the party.

ETA: Also, the BAC level for drunk driving was .10 rather than .08.

Alabama = Ole Miss…

This used to be true.

Bama has taken it to an entirely new level over the last two decades and is clearly and objectively ahead of Ole Miss from a Greek standpoint now.

Look at the buildings.
Look at the enrollment.
Look at the economic and donor power.

If you come for a game it’s worth checking out the houses just from an architectural standpoint, it’s somewhat mind blowing how big and nice they are now.

They all suck. Sad some of you can't make friends unless you join a club.

Are house band parties not allowed anywhere anymore? We had band parties in the mid 2000s at Auburn. I haven’t paid attention the past years but they went on well after that.

Kegs are great but by the mid 2000s the women preferred other drinks so imo it wasn’t as big of a deal to not have a keg at the house.

LSU in the early - mid 2000's, we still had some pretty good parties, but there was a lot of oversight you had to navigate to still have fun. As I was leaving, it seemed like it was getting more intense scrutiny and sounds like it became a nightmare afterwards. In any case, even when the times were "good" at LSU during that era, the percentage of greek vs non-greek at LSU didn't touch that of Alabama/Ole Miss.

You clearly have never been to a fraternity band party. I had plenty of friends and went to plenty of parties outside of the fraternity, but easily the top 50 parties I went to were all fraternity parties. Mostly band parties.

When I was at Auburn the club rugby team through some good parties and they wanted to act like they were ‘anti frat’, but it was still a ‘club’.

OM has always been odd to me being that the vast majority of your school is greek where as LSU was 11-13%

Felts and Haigi really did a good job considering they came in right after the Wynn death. They were pro greek and thank god for it. Now that woman that was there a few years ago was terrible and hurt the LSU greek community progress
