Mine would look similar to this. Texas, Georgia and Florida are the best.

I know Kenner, have no idea about Bentonville, but it sounds like we are comparing an old suburb vs farmland that has just become the brand new mcmansionville. What led to this?

If LA had people enforcing these laws, there would be no political system in Louisiana. From parish reps to state politicians would be in jail.

not too many convictions here, just a lot of indictments/charges

I guess I'm just not sure how you can substantiate that. What isn't there to do in texas that there is to do in the others?
Actually, I'll caveat my prior statement. I tend to think of Texas as Dallas and Houston. Austin is decidedly is not boring (although I think it's overrated and that's a different discussion).
In general, I think Georgia and Houston/Dallas are similar in that they're uninteresting places to visit and good places to live. Houston and Atlanta have a lot of the same challenges. Dallas is the better place to live, but IMO is the dullest of the three. I think it trails significantly in most cultural respects, but is the most "pleasant" overall.
I would take Atlanta over Dallas for drinking scene, food scene and authenticity of urban redevelopment. Dallas probably has a better overall art scene, but neither are doing all that much in art and music right now. Atlanta had a far stronger music scene in the 90s than now, and I'm unaware of Dallas ever having a great music scene.
Using Atlanta vs. Dallas, I think Atlanta is more dynamic than Dallas, IMO. It's also shittier than Dallas in many ways, partly because we're overflowing with douchey millennials from all over that are leading the way in the aforementioned metrics of urban reuse, dining, and drinking. Dallas has douchebaggery too, but ours is more varied, I think.
Atlanta also has a more rich social fabric, which, again, means good things like history, cultural influence, etc., but also controversial things like diversity, racial tension and the like. That's what I'm getting at in saying Texas is dull. Dull doesn't necessarily equate to bad, and on the exciting/dynamic vs. nice place to live scale, I tend to fall with the latter in my preferences, honestly.
Ft. Worth is great, you should check it out next time you're this way.
The reason why Dallas and Houston to a lesser extent are like they are is because we're such an international and national Mecca. We no longer have an real identity, where it was once the bridge between the south and the western cowboy culture. Not to say that it's completely disappeared, but with so many companies, northerners and immigrants from all over the world here, it doesn't feel like texas. It's really a sad thing, that we've given up so much, but we have gained much, too. I don't know if it's worth it, but I think Dallas needs to take a step back and get back in touch with its roots.
All that said, I prefer to spend as much time in the piney woods of east tx as I can, I can only stand the city for so long.

This whole list is so subjective ... except for one thing. Mississippi is the worst state in America. Any one who doesn't agree to that is either just trolling or hasn't been there enough.
I could make a case for New Mexico or West Virginia being worse but those places at least have some amazing scenery.

I'll only rank the 3 I've lived in (from worst to best for consistency):
1. Arkansas
2. Louisiana
3. Texas
That being said, Mississippi has got the be the worst.

I like Ft Worth and prefer it to Dallas. I'm in Dallas a lot.

Well, that and Dallas and Houston are both relatively new as major (truly major) cities in the US. Atlanta has the same issue, we have history and whatnot, but we struggle more than the Texas cities at retaining natives IMO. Look at how many 10+ year Atlantans will show up to games wearing Cards gear or whatever.
I suspect all three of those cities will, in time, seem more nativist.

1. Mississippi - If it wasn't for Natchez I really would have zero reason to visit the state.
2. Missouri - St. Louis is awful and is there anything scenic at all about the state?
3. Arkansas - The Ozarks are certainly a plus, but that's the only draw I can currently think of.
4. Alabama - Gumps hurt the ranking, but you do have some nice scenery in places. Mobile is aight.
5. Kentucky - Mountains, bourbon, horse country, and Louisville helps pull you up.
6. Louisiana - If I'm honest with myself, this is our place. Great history, food, and culture, but local politics and most cities are a mess. The job market is limited. NOLA is a plus and a minus. It is so unique and interesting that it has the potential to be Charleston West, but is so terribly mismanaged and overrun with bad demographics that it's all a wash.
7. Florida - Beaches, bitches, hopping cities and a solid economy. As others have said, it's overrun with Floridians, though, and is less "Southern" than most other states in the SEC.
8. Tennessee - Nashville is great, mountain scenery and activities, and a decent job market all prop it up. Lack of a coast and not excelling at anything pull it down a bit, though.
9. South Carolina - Charleston is one of my favorite cities I've ever visited, nice beaches, good economy, and a diverse landscape all put it up there.
10. Georgia - Savannah is a cool town, Atlanta is a major economic power, history, diverse geography, etc. It's hard to put Georgia down. Their local politics are a bit bad, I hear.
11. Texas - Probably the best run state in the SEC, certainly the best economy. Decent beaches, good history. Austin, Dallas, San Antoine, and Houston are all good cities with solid food. Too many Texans, and I don't much care for most of the geography of the interior, but those are probably the only major drawbacks.

I'd probably have Georgia at the 2nd best state to live in if Atlanta weren't the only major city.
Atlanta sucks so bad but the rest of the state (outside a few spots in south central) is awesome.

Athens, North GA mountains, Savannah, the rest of the coast. shite even west/south west GA isn't bad it's just not very inhabited.
Atlanta is the most generic, cookie cutter major city in America. Luckily there are things not too far away to take advantage of, but Atlanta is so blah. Not to mention the demographics of the actual city.

The most frustrating thing about Mississippi is the lack of available resources... there is absolutely nothing to do in Mississippi other than hunting/fishing.
Jackson is the freaking capital of the state and the only official 'Zoo' in the state is an embarrassment, no amusement parks, no aquariums... The 'international airport' in Jackson is more suited for crop-dusters... going anywhere out of Jackson by plane will take as long driving there.
