Rank the Southern States from your favorite to least

1. North Carolina. Beaches, mountains, big cities, countryside.
2. Tennessee. A great place to live with very friendly people (mostly).
3. Florida. A big state with so much to choose from. You can live the rural life, the city life or the beach life.
4. Georgia. Pure Southern essence.
5. S. Carolina. Beautiful beaches. Lots of preserved nature.
6. Kentucky. Great people and underrated cities.
7. Arkansas. Similar to Kentucky. The Ozarks are an underappreciated gem.
8. Louisiana. Best food in the South, hands down. You can get all types of Southern food here. Francophone culture, music, quaint towns that just looks different than those in the rest of the South.
9. Alabama. A state that gets a bad rap, mostly for its past; its positives are overlooked.
10. Virginia. I think of history and nature. Still very much Southern in most of the state; it does not fade until you get near D.C.
11. Mississippi. My home state. Perhaps I'm being too disparaging, but there's not much about Mississippi I like besides my family, friends, and college sports. It's not a mystery to me that it lost population from 2010-20.
12. Texas. I don't hate Texas, it's just that I don't really care for the Texan separatist sentiment. The folks there are a different breed, and they're awfully proud to let you know they're from Texas. Texas is nice, but not to the extent some make it out to be.

Give me TN, NC, GA, SC and VA in that order.
MS is last. LA second to last, followed by TX

Would be an amazing cultural utopia if you got rid of certain things and people.

Hell yeah. MS has good beach towns.
And the world's longest man-made beach! Which is pretty neat.

1. North Carolina
The rest suck.

I lived in Virginia when I was in the service and in North Carolina when I got out. VA was ok, I would not choose to live there again. NC was a great place to live and we will probably end up back there at some point. Hopefully all the Yankee transplants haven't ruined it completely by then. The only other southern state I would consider living in is Florida.

Now that I think about it as much as I’ve traveled, I’ve never been to South Carolina before. Is there any place worth visiting there outside of Charleston?
