That is too bad, tons of people will be out of work.
It bothers me that OP won't change his thread title even though several people have pointed out that it is wrong.

Under the deal, Standard General would acquire between 1,500 and 2,400 RadioShack stores and partner with wireless operator Sprint Corp. to operate as many as 1,750 of the outlets, RadioShack said Thursday.
Looks like only about 1/4th or so of all stores will actually close.

They were a really fun store back in the day.
They used to have the coolest remote control cars back in the early 1990s.

Store has served no purpose for the past 10 years.

Radio shack screwed up when they stopped hiring knowledgable sales persons. Radio shack sales people used to be able to tell you how to build things, and could diagnose problems and sell you the appropriate parts to fix said problem. Then those folks all were let go/ retired when they reimaged the chain back in the early 00s. I've been frustrated every time I've gone in one in the last 10 years
This.
You can get solid advice and sometimes even help with an automobile problem at an Autozone store.
Radio Shack employees used to be able to do that with consumer electronics. Now they just sell phone accessories, chargers, and batteries....which basically puts them up against Target and Wal Mart (both of which are cheaper and often easier to find).

Some people think that if a company files for BK it always means they are going out of business completely.

Yea they don't understand the differences in Chap 7 vs 11.

And some people heard the story on the car radio and it was misinterpreted by the OP.

Every worker I've seen at any Radio Shack in the past 15 years has been under 25, so they shouldn't have a hard time with being let go

I think we should all shop at radio shack and pay higher prices so people can keep their jobs.
Who's with me? O&G guys? Anyone?

But is it safe to say that a lot (if not most) of the stores will close? I read some will be turned into Sprint stores but IDK if the current employees will be just absorbed into Sprint or if they will have to go through the interview stages.

Exactly. The local Ace Hardware stores seem to have embraced this strategy with great effectiveness. Knowledge and customer service is the only way to fight the big box stores.

Am I the only one that is surprised they lasted this long.
This morning while we were getting ready I heard this on the news and the first thing I said the her was "I'm surprised this didn't happen 10 yrs ago."

I went into a Radio Shack a few months back. The prices were outrageous. I'm honestly shocked they've lasted this long. They used to be the only place you could get some cables for your stereo, or TV or something. But now, you can find any cable you need online for 1/2 the price.

I got my start in computers with the Shack. Sold a bunch of them via Tandy Biz Products in the mid-80's on Florida Blvd. Learned how to sell, great commissions!
Those were the days. Now computers and electronics are all commodities that everyone knows something about.
