No thanks.
It would take tripling my salary before I’d even consider it.
From a societal point of view, it’s counterproductive to have intellectually gifted people performing menial tasks. It’d be a massive drain on production, plus a whole lotta blue collar people with nowhere to go.
**im using extreme generalities…I work with a lot of incredibly dumb people, just as I’m sure the blue collar ranks are filled with incredibly bright people.

Us white collar folks didn't spend 4+ years and thousands of our, our parents', or taxpayer/PFT's money to work a back-breaking blue collar job.
quote:They should. But most of us are already making $100k or close to it, and certainly aren't putting in a full 40 hours of work each week. I personally would balk at 40 hours of weekly manual labor until you start talking a figure around $150k.
a good electrician should make $100k/yr on a 40hr work week
quote:It would need to be the best health insurance possible, and change 401k to a pension if you want to actually move the needle here.
Insurance and 401k as well.

New construction plumber is a good gig.

My father only had an 8th grade education. Was in construction until he died at the age of 56. His gift to his children was his insistence that we get as educated as possible. He harped on us constantly that working with your brain is a much better way to live than to work with your hands.
My father had 4 children. All of us have at a minimum, a masters degree. I thank God every day that I had a father that instilled how important a good education is to his children. He, and my mother, were strict disciplinarians toward us always completing our homework accurately and on time.

Blue caller baws want to be white collar
White caller baws deep down want to be blue collar
The lesson there is that there are pros and cons on both sides.

Honestly the only reason I’m not blue collar is money. Make it so I can pull in $300-450k a year and I’m in.
It’s more enjoyable work (electrician) than what I do now. I love what I do but I’ve built a few homes and absolutely love doing that kind of work as well.

Not really, maybe for a day.

Having worked a desk job now for 30 years, I would love to drive a garbage truck and be outside

What do you do for 300-450k?
I probably should have rephrased to indicate that this question is not for those who make that kind of money (working for someone else). Less than 20% of households in Louisiana make over 100k/yr, yet the blue/white collar divide is about 55/45 in favor of white collar.
I was hoping to hear from them, but I am certain that they are too embarrassed to speak up in front of the OT top dawgs.

You are the demographic that will m looking for- provided that your desk job doesn’t pay OT baller money.

Id quit my job and mow lawns for a living in a heartbeat
One of the main reasons I quit pipefitting and pursued the office role is because of the retards and drug addicts. The pipe fitting and welding professions attract those types like moths to a flame.

I’ve been in white-collar work for 25+ years. More than once I’ve thought about trading places with the guy mowing lawns. Mostly to escape the corporate bs/politics/drama. Guess I was driven out of college for white-collar work and didn’t aim for blue-collar, though I’ve respected it.
For your situation, I think key is awareness and training. Recruiting the right people by showing strong earning potential this work offers, the benefits, and positive working conditions, And you’ll most likely need a good training process in place to get ppl who are naturally competent and reliable to get onboard.

I’m a White collar that started out as a blue collar. Worked my way up into the office.
Some days I think about how nice it would be to just cut grass or something like that with way less bs. Main problem now a days is no one wants to work. The younger generation wants 350k out of college with no experience. And bartending isn’t experience!

It’s really not a bad gig. I could’ve been a white collar baw. I chose electrician because I enjoy working with my hands, and I despise the corporate culture. I’m doing quite well. I am a third generation electrician and self employed. This thread is not about my success or lack thereof. I want to make the trade more attractive for those who have begrudgingly chosen a desk over a tool belt.

I thought this was a hypothetical question about what it would take for me to quit my white collar job for blue collar
Not saying the hypothetical blue collar position is real
