re: Question for the OT old folks regarding fads around baby names

I'm 42, and here are my thoughts on the names bestowed upon children these days:
1. Upon hearing some of the names given to kids these days, I immediately wonder if the primary goal was to create a name that was as outlandish and uncommon as possible. Some of them are just ridiculous. (Disclaimer: not a racial thing at all--I'm talking about names white people are using.). I feel bad for the kids who will be in the work force one day and will need to work extra hard to be taken seriously with those names.
2. When naming our daughter, my husband and I chose an old, classic family name that suits her well. No regrets on that front.
3. My personal naming test: Picture a baby, a small child, a teenager, a young adult, a middle-aged person, and an elderly person with that name. If it suits a person at all those stages of life, it is probably a good name.

I remember back when the name John was first getting popular. I though it was cheesy and just a fad.

The one trend i am hoping will end soon is names that end in 'aiden'
My boys baseball team had 5 players with that name type...Braiden, Caden, 2 Aidens and a Hayden'

I think that's the main reason my jimmies are upside down and inside out right now. But some of those girls names seem a little lala-land too.

I think Aiden's a nice name but the BRayden/Cayden/Jayden shite is terrible

If I have a kid....I want them to be able to find a souvenir with their name on it. Also want them to have a solid name that suits them into adulthood. Something that has a good meaning. So will likely go with a "traditional" name.
My name was one of the most popular girl names when I was born. So you could say my mom gave into being trendy when naming me.

Yeah they are. My nephew's name is Jacob. Although his mom hates that Twilight was big when he was born so people asked if he was named that because of the movie
