My family and I are considering moving in the next 1-2 years, we have been looking at the following areas; Ocala, Winter Haven, and Spring Hill. Can anyone tell me about these areas or other towns/suburbs nearby, it would be much appreciated! Not really looking to spend more than 250k on a home but looking for somewhere that’s safe and has things to do.

I can tell you that living in the middle of Florida would suck severely. Stay within 15 miles of the coast. Mt. Dora may be the place you are looking for though.

Whatever happens, don't die after you move. People here will ridicule your obituary.

Mrs. Peck?

Man that tongue in cheek comment really hit a nerve.

But it seems the closer you go to the coast, the smaller and trashier the houses become.

So it's a decision between living good in the middle with no beach, or living in a shack next to the coast.

Can you find a place near the coast for 250k?

I drive through Ocala several times a year and it seems like one of the nicest spots in the state. It's big time horse country with some really pretty rolling hills. I'd much rather live there than on one of the tourist coasts or in (shudder) Orlando. Lots of stuff to do with a 1 to 2 hour drive.

Dunedin is a really nice little town. A bit north of Clearwater Beach but far enough away from Tarpon Springs.

Can't help, relocated to SWFL, 10 minutes from the beach, love it. Housing here is really expensive. The middle of the state, no thanks

You should look at Ft. Myers or Bradenton. Reasonable housing prices and lots to do.

Yeah, if you live in Lehigh! I am between Ft. Myers and Naples and my house was $420K, 2,300/sf. Not cheap.

What do you and your wife do for a living?

I’m biased, but I LOVE Gainesville. Huge young professional scene here, tons of culture and outdoorsy stuff. Also a very nice place to raise a family. And we’re in the middle of everything- an hour to the beach on either coast.

Living inland in Florida sucks. Why on earth would you pick those three locations?

Move to a coastal area. There are plenty to choose from.

Edit:

If you’re hellbent on living inland, Lake County is a really nice area in central Florida. Beautiful lakes and several small towns to choose from. Stay away from Leesburg.

St Augustine is full, look elsewhere.
