Deland is half way between Daytona Beach and Orlando. A little further west Sanford. Take a look at Polk County cities like Lakeland and smaller Auburndale.

Mt Dora is 40 miles from the coast.

I didn't know you live in Gainesville. My daughter just came home for the summer and will be returning in August.

Do not listen to this clown, he’s trolling.
Sanford is nice east of I-4 but with 250k you’ll be in a neighborhood that has crack houses nowhere near the nice part. Polk county is pretty much nothing but meth labs and lunatics so I’d stay the frick out of there unless you drive a a big rig. I’m not a fan of Deland but some people drink the Stetson Kool-Aid so I’ll let you be the judge of that.

I'll be the one helping her move in, wearing an LSU cap and shirt.

I live in Polk county. I do not have a meth lab...

OP, what are your requirements for schools, work, closeness to beach, closeness to Disney etc.? Many people on the board are familiar with the areas.

I grew up in Ocala and have just moved back after 40 plus years living all over but mostly in Louisiana. Ocala’s a nice town and I’m really enjoying it. I have nieces and nephews raising children here and they are happy with the public schools. Some of the kids are more into golf and some in horses and rodeos. The Ocala National Forest has some of the most beautiful springs for swimming and canoeing. I lived in Crystal River for a while and it was really nice if you enjoy fishing and boating. You can saltwater fish all day and then come back in the river to Kings Bay and wash your boat off and swim in cool spring water. Real estate market has finally come back somewhat but it’s still a good place to buy. BTW I lived in Orlando for a year and prefer Ocala. We were very close to the tourist areas and you really get tired of it. I also like Gainesville.

Have lived in Bradenton (So of Tampa-St. Pete) for 12 yrs. Our house is about a 15 minute drive from beautiful Gulf beaches on Anna Maria Island. Real Estate in West Bradenton is pricey, schools are meh. Otherwise good place to live. Cuisine is mixed, mostly cater to bland Midwestern palates, but there are some outstanding places to eat as well. Population demographics are mostly older/retired Midwesterners. But look in East Bradenton/Manatee County and its a whole different picture. Plenty of families, newer houses, better schools. Still close to water. Worth a look.

I like the horse country around Ocala, but most of central FL is humid and hot. Look just north of Tampa or around Pensacola in Panhandle. Or south of St. Pete down to Port Charlotte. Prices in Northport, Venice, Osprey aren’t too bad. Nice places all.

I live in the keys but not a big fan of the rest of the state. There’s lots of open space but most places that have people are very densely packed. Lots of cookie cutter gated homes and low end chain restaurants.

Just curious why?

I moved down here for a specific job, not just "to move"....

I live 20 min south of ocala in Marion County.

But if you were moving down here just to "move", Dunedin would be nice near the coast just north of Tampa.

Mt Dora is nice town aside the lake within quick driving (freeway) access to Orlando.

I was kidding... it's a very nice area

It does seem odd to just pick up and move without having a job lined up though

Will do, I moved down a year ago. I usually make it up there when the tigers are in town for big 3 sports.

My work sends me up there about 3 times a year to do training at UF as well.
