The fact that a psycho can randomly attack anyone no matter where they are undermines my position?

I like any mechanical device. I also like the proper tool for the job.

Guns are a lot less expensive than cars and trucks.

Whats the argument for gun control?

Have you not been paying attention?

Yeah, and I'm still confused. I hear "Australian type control" and "common sense control" and the latter lacks a lot of detail. I see some people saying "no one will come for your guns" and then the next sentence saying they want to ban certain types of weapons.

Go ahead dude, incite, incite, incite. You have no answer as to why you feel compelled to criticize and belittle people that don't share your obsession with guns, except that it makes you feel better about yourself.

Every firearm I own is a hunting weapon, with the exception of three single-action revolvers. One in my night stand, and the other two down in my hunting closet. I recognize the difference between having a gun for a rational reason and owning assault rifles for "protection."

You break in my house in the middle of the night, your arse is getting shot, but that certainly doesn't mean everybody has to share my viewpoint and start prepping for Armageddon every time they set foot outside their houses (which admittedly, I understand is pretty rare for some of you).

And that is why you are the one who needs help, dipshit.

As a gun owner I'll say this. If I'm carrying and someone starts shooting up the place....I'm getting cover and finding a way the frick out of there. Only if there is no safe way out will I shoot back. I'm not looking to be a hero, just to live longer.

Sadly, I think this mentality is quite scarce. I honestly believe that a giant chunk of Louisiana's handgun owners want to find themselves in a situation where they get to use it on someone.

You'd be incorrect.

Tons of us have ready access to guns on our person or in our vehicles. If what you said is true there would be many more shootings.

Obviously, gun owners are overwhelmingly responsible.

I agree.

Not to go all stereotypical knuckle dragging 'Murican here, but it always bothers me when the leftist pinheads and do-gooders ask, "Why do you have to have such a big truck?" "Why do you have to drink such a big soda?" "Why do you have 72 guns???"

Because I haven't bought the 73rd one, a-hole. If I wanted the government to tell me the size truck or soft drink I could buy, or how many guns I can own I'd move to Cuba or North Korea.

Why would I want to do that? But, reverse that situation and your gun would be severely concealed.

That comes down to fight or flight if you're not with your family. With family, priority 1 is getting them safe. By myself, I'm not gonna run away.

Some people fight, and some people flight. It's their natural reaction

I have to disagree. My firearms are to protect me (not married and no kids) and immediate family. Not to play superhero or try to save the day. If I have to point a firearm at someone it's because I feel they are about to kill me or family. Not because they are taking my tv.

There are a few posters on here whom I have met that have seen a certain scar on my left forearm.

I was concealed carrying in New Orleans with my girlfriend in college when we were approached by a feauxbeaux with a small spyderco knife. I placed her behind me and offered him my wallet. He wanted more than that. She drew my gun from the small of my back, and I hit him.

He looked pretty high on heroin, and I had at least 100lbs on him so I thought getting the knife would be fairly easy. A small two inch spyderco ended up buried in my left forearm wedged between the two bones and I ended up slamming him into the ground hard enough to break his hip socket. And I may have stomped his shoulder in anger/pain NOPD showed up, and an older cop reccommended I walk away and go to the charity hospital. Guy was going away for a long long time even without our altercation.

To this day I have limited mobility in my left pinky.

In retrospect, I should have let the girl shoot him.

I carried then, I carry now. I'm just a lot less sure I'm invincible these days.

Complete honesty, is there ever moments that you regret not having a gun available for protection? Either home or auto. Situations like this and post Katrina, just some scary shite out there. I know some don't like guns but you'd think people like their safety more so.

Honestly if I were to move back home (Nola or even BR) I would buy one. With that said I have never felt the need to get one during my time in NYC.

I own 2 guns but no CHL. If my job changed where I was working a freestanding ER? With no posted security or cop as security for a second job, I'd think hard about carrying. To hell with what the sign on the door would say.

Key would be to never tell a soul, and if you pulled the gun or fired, you would have to be so worried for your safety, that you don't care about getting fired or fined.

I used to own a .22. I used to to rain destruction on beer cans and soda bottles.

I was reared around guns and taught how to use them, but they just never were my thing until recently.

Now I love guns. I buy one every time I have some extra money kicked back. They are a lot of fun. But I still refuse to get out of bed at 4:00 o'clock in the morning, bundle up, and go freeze my behind off in the hope of killing a duck.

Capt. Brannigan had a thread on the OB not too long ago about inheriting a gun.
