Question for non gun owners

Complete honesty, is there ever moments that you regret not having a gun available for protection? Either home or auto. Situations like this and post Katrina, just some scary shite out there. I know some don't like guns but you'd think people like their safety more so.

I have never owned a gun, nor shot one. I think I may need to rethink.

Sometimes. I'm considering taking a safety class/shooting lessons to brush up & get one. My dad taught me to shoot as a teen, but I haven't used one since.
The times I've felt in physical danger, my instinct was to kill. Like, surprisingly so. I'm generally very calm and nonviolent. But threaten me or my family, and it sends me into this "I will rip your fricking arms off" bloodlust rage.

are you working for the government? are you trying to get all of the non-gun owners on a list?

Somewhat relevant
Several of my family/friends used to ask me why I felt it necessary to have a gun. No less than 5 of those same people have recently asked me to recommend them a handgun/ teach them to shoot.
I think recent events have definitely opened people's eyes to the fact that violence can, and will occur anywhere

Get a single shot shotgun.
Much more effective and safe.
Much more effective and safe.

I don't own a gun just because I have not gotten around to putting aside the money to do so. I have thought about it, but it isn't a huge priority for me. I may eventually get around to it. That said, I haven't made it a priority because I don't feel unsafe. I'm within a 10 minute drive of where the shooting today took place, and I still don't feel unsafe. The odds of something happening to me are astronomically high, and I don't think that having a gun would necessarily even help all that much if the shite were to really hit the fan.

I've lived all over the country, and it is just different outside Louisiana. No, I am not generally concerned in the Northeast or out West, but if I lived in BR, I'd have a pistol at the ready.
Most of yall that have lived only in La. just accept this as a fact of life, unfortunately.

No, never regretted it. My home is well protected though and I live in a safe area so I am not worried about anything.
I'm not anti-gun or anything and I have no issues with anyone owning a gun, just never had the desire to own one.

Having a gun in car or home absolutely elevates your level of protection say you get whackos around

We only own a little .22 and I'm not really a gun advocate/enthusiast. I'm also politically moderate, so I guess I'll chime.
This and last week's news has made me consider a gun purchase for home safety. The thought crossed my mind that should violence ever come to my neighborhood it'd be nice to be able to set up an eagle's nest.

I don't have anything against guns or people that own them. I do not own one. I never really worry about it.

That is actually extremely relevant. There are a lot of studies that show the correlation between societies/ populations feeling "safe" and liberalism. Basically that the more "safe" a population feels the more liberal they become. Ancient Rome, modern Europe, modern USA, etc.
Basically that once you don't have to think about surviving on a daily basis, you start thinking about minority rights, the environment, etc.

Get a pump shotgun that holds multiple rounds, and learn how to shoot it.

The man just said "need to rethink".
Don't knock a guy that's trying to learn.

Thoroughly enjoyed helping a family member pick out a home defense shotgun and accompanying a freiend to the range to help them get comfortable shooting their new pistols. Took a concealed carry class with my 71 year old dad as well. I hope more and more sane responsible citizens get a gun and get some training to use it safely and responsibly.

This is a good way to look at it, I'm a gun owner but having a handgun on me isn't going to do much if I am randomly gunned down
