Agreed.

Sometimes work puts folks in bad areas. Got to make a living and having a firearm for protection is a wise thing.

I work with a guy who would suck Hillarys dick if he could and he hates guns. He thinks we need to round up every gun in America and refuses to accept that as nonsense.

Sweet baseball badass.

However, if it's multiple perps or a man with a gun you and and your family are dead.

Congrats on the high ground though.

The officers that died today had a pistol on them , and were highly trained with it. You can't protect yourself 100% necessarily, but if more citizens carried ( and we're training ed appropriately ) no doubt there would be fewer mass shooting casualties

Born and raised in Louisiana. Parents never owned a gun, I never owned a gun. Most of my family doesn't own guns either. Never really thought of it as an issue and it was never a political message. No one in my family in anti-gun either.

I was taught gun safety at an early age though and my dad did teach me how to shoot a gun and taught me gun safety.

I was going to say, this board and the south in general is just different from a lot of the country. There is way more likelihood I do something stupid with a gun than I fend off a home invader. I'm definitely thinking about gunning up, but people on this board get so amped up for armgaddeon when things like this happen.

Dude, I've got a closet full of guns, and guess what? They've never killed anyone! I should go check on them now to see if they're plotting to kill someone, but I need another drink.

handgun and rifle, don't know what kind. My dad wanted my to be able to safely and properly handle and shoot different types of guns if I ever needed to.

Same reason I am teaching my son how to safely and properly handle firearms. Better to know it and not need it than to need it and not know it.

This is a good way to look at it, I'm a gun owner but having a handgun on me isn't going to do much if I am randomly gunned down

Exactly my point. There are a few very specific situations where having a gun might save your life. Even if you are involved in a violent situation that warrants use of the gun, you don't know if you will have time to read the situation and react appropriately. When you factor in that a violent situation is rare in the first place for decently well off folks who don't get themselves in bad situations then you are preparing for an incredibly rare event.

I can understand people who want to completely minimize that risk, and I've thought about it too. But as of right now it's kind of like getting struck by lightning. If I go down in such an incredibly low probability event then that's the way I was meant to go. I'll just avoid walking around in the open during a thunder storm.

Wasn't a moral high ground or trying to be a badass.

I'm single with no children so I just don't feel the need to own one just yet in my life

I feel like we're moments away from chaos in society these days. Today's climate; next tropical system. You figure out the rest.

I grew up hunting and with plenty of guns in the house. I currently don't have at my residence though. I'll be getting one soon.

I still do not feel the need for a gun, at least for me and my family personally. No regrets. Relative to the number of gun owners and robberies / break-ins at home, it's rare that you hear of someone using a gun at home to fend off someone. And I certainly won't carry one outside the house with kids. And murders and shootings are down anyway...well maybe not in BRLA.
