It's exactly 30 minutes to Monroe from Ruston. My first job after college was just east of the mall and it took 36 minutes.

You're lucky to get from point A to point B in Baton Rouge in the time it takes to get from Ruston to Monroe.

What time of the day were you getting to work and leaving though? If during rush hour there's no way. And I've commuted between the two a lot when at Tech/working in Monroe. It gets old fast.

There's no way you were making that in 30 minutes with no traffic without going 90. I grew up on the West side of West Monroe almost in Calhoun and went to school in Ruston. From my house it was 25 minutes to Ruston and about 20 to the mall in Monroe. If you are driving from Ruston to the mall around 7:30 AM it's closer to an hour than anything else.

No way.

Ruston to West Monroe takes 20 minutes now. It's 25 miles and you're going 70-75.

Ruston to anywhere in Monroe is shorter than my commute from my house in east Baton Rouge to Essen Lane.

In order to give you an honest response, we need to know budget, commute distance, and family orientation. I can send you to Ole Geauxt's crib if you're a pimp with a super strong hand, but can't send you there if you are a family man.

Hi.... this is Tommy Tucker and I want to talk to you about the maids.... The maids were created by a person who had made millions of dollars, that didn't need to work another day in his life. But, he knew that he had to give something back. And, that the best way to do it was by starting a company who's business it was to make sure you came home after a long day at work to a spotless home. The maids go through a 22 point inspection process that includes everything from the oven, to your bathrooms, from the garage to your medicine cabinet. I came home after a long day of being on the air last week seeing that the maids had organized my medicine cabinet for me. Now, the maids don't necessarily have to go through your medicine cabinet. But if you want them to, they will. Back in a flash. 270-1870 Tommy Tucker The Maids

That took a lot of effort. Mica is out after tomorrow morning.

Frenchman's Bend north of Monroe, just south of Sterlington (now kinda of Sterlington), is really nice and Sterlington school district. I also love north Monroe north of Forsythe Avenue, but you may have to decide if the school district is okay for your kids (if any). Also, all around north Monroe and Frenchman's Bend you need to inquire about flooding (past and future).

It does have the ugliest elementary school in the world though

I disagree. It may not be cool to an adult, but to a child this is an amazing place. I have friends who's kids are making great gains and thoroughly enjoy going to school everyday.

1.) Choudrant - the new Squire Creek development just west of the golf course - so nice - baseball field, fishing, golf, tennis, swimming - all right there

2.) Belle Point (North Monroe) - in a flood zone but great families and nice homes - short bike ride to the Monroe Athletic Club

3.) River Oaks - aging - not near as nice as it was 20 years ago - prone to flooding - great location for easy commutes, plenty of good families

4.) Sterlington anything north of North Monroe Hospital not named Frenchman's Bend - ton of home for sale in North Pointe - check that little subdivision out.

5.) Egret Landing - just started phase 2 - I am starting to like that development now that I see how phase 3 will tie it all in with the north entrance. I really feel this is where a great number of folks will move too when the dust settles.

I would avoid Frenchman's - If I wanted that long of a wait in traffic I would opt for the new subdivision at Squire Creek all day - every day.

I would avoid West Monroe

I you like land and room to grow, there are a ton of opportunities in Morehouse and Richland Parish where you can build a barnominium or ranchette and have plenty of land to farm, ride ATVs, have horses, etc.

I'd live towards Alto, Archibald, Winnsboro, Wisner area myself, that is if you're into country living, buy a place with a little acreage.

Saw a bunch of very nice places out in the country around Wisner while I was searching for the cemetery where Isaiah Buggs had his announcement ceremony.

To piggyback on the country and acreage point, Union Parish would not be bad for that either. It also has a top notch sacalait and bass lake. Commutes not too bad to North Monroe, at least short enough that the CEO of CenturyLink doesn't mind it.

North Monroe around Bayou DeSiard. River Oaks subdivision. Belle Pointe subdivision is located inside River Oaks subdivision. it's nice, although the original RO subdivision streets that are along the bayou have some of the most beautiful homes in Monroe. Island Drive/Pargoud Boulevard Area are just as nice.
