Did that development actually come to pass? It was the real estate project that took down Ouachita National Bank years ago.

I live in North Monroe. Everything you will ever need in this town just became a 3.5 mile bubble. You're welcome.
You don't need to deal with bridge traffic (West Monroe), take the interstate (anywhere other than Monroe), or deal with white trash (Bawcomville/West Monroe).

Frenchmen's is chocked full of cribs. You're probably thinking of North Pointe right off of 165, which has now taken off.

Exactly. The convenience of living so close to everything makes it worth it. I'm at most a 5 minute drive to anything I want to do.
If you want plenty of land I get moving somewhere outside of the city and commuting, but what I don't get are the people who want to live in WM or somewhere like that just for the sake of it being WM and add at least an hour onto their day sitting in the car only to live in a house in a subdivision.

Property on the southside of town is dirt cheap. Of course there are problems to go along with the cheap dirt.

I actually get upset when it takes me ten minutes to get to Taco Bell, and that's just because I hit every light on Tower on the way over.
I complained the other day about how far away the mall was until someone pointed out it was only 4 miles away.

One item to take in consideration is topography. Monroe, Sterlington and points east of the Ouachita are flat as an ironing board and many areas are prone to flooding. If you choose Monroe you also choose their city government and the insane divisiveness that comes with it. High crime areas and the city school board is just as buffoonish as the city government. Research thoroughly when it comes to property values, public education, crime and quality of life.

Stay out of the Garden District or close to the river in River Oaks and all is well.

Eh, they keep away from us in North Monroe. We have to deal with the money-generator DWI checkpoints more often than not (but everyone knows when and where they are) but Mayo knows who he has to appeal to to keep his job.

High crime areas
Yep. That happens.

Who said anything about public schools? There's a reason the private schools are super-popular. There are some really good public schools if you live in North Monroe, though.

If you have children and schools are a consideration I would say Sterlington or West Monroe. The schools are very good in both places. If you choose to live in Monroe then you might want to check out the private schools. You can find the scores for all schools online.
The commute across the bridge isn't a big deal. Nothing like Baton Rouge or Dallas traffic. I do it every day and it takes 20 minutes to get to work.

It takes me 5 minutes and I put less than 10k miles on my car a year.

If you're looking to rent you definitely want to start your search in the Garden District and on around the levee on the backside of Forsythe Park.
If you're looking to buy Frenchman's Bend is nice. Its a very young demographic for a golf community but as someone mentioned earlier its a nightmare trying to get out of there in the mornings. One way in, one way out.
The whole Sterlington area is nice. Bartholomew Woods, east of the bayou, especially.
Since the paper mill closed in Bastrop there have been what seem to be some incredible bargains on real estate. Don't let the low prices fool you, it's a rotting corpse of a town. Nothing but drugs and crime. I grew up in Mer Rouge so I know Bastrop well. Everyone worth a frick got out years ago.

Because we all know Monroe is void of white trash.

I don't know shite about Monroe, but always said if I had to move there, I'd buy this pink house. WTF is it for?

God no.
waste of gas. time lost. 5 or 6 times a year when driving will be dangerous, ice on bridges & T-storm pelting rain, maybe a snow one morning.
worst post of all time.

When I was in college at ULM I dated a chick who's family was from Wisner.
