Going through the motions of establishing SG because Broome was elected is stupid. Just vote her out in 3.5 years. She only won by ~3,500 votes and isn't doing anything to sway the moderate voter that elected her over Bodi.

It's the beginning of the end. So many of the "republicans" have moved out of the parish that there probably won't be another republican elected. The cuck lsu professors are still gonna vote for democrats too

Hell, watch her get reelected

About to change the name to Jackson rouge

Sir, if you can't see the systematic corruption revealed by the COA disclosures, I don't know what to say.

Broome didn't create the COA situation, Kip Holden and the Council let it happen before Broome took over. She just failed to do anything about what the others have done.

You should know by now that this is just the tip of the iceberg. When they shove their grandiose plans down our throats somebody is making big money.

Someone needs to look at the other agencies and the Tram really hard. Who is pushing all this? Who are on the boards? Who is scratching whose backs?

Simply turning out Broome in time will not fix these issues, they largely go unnoticed as people are too busy to look into these things.

I don't see a Republican getting elected in BR again. There's a demographic issue in EBRP that's not going to change. Too many have fled to Ascension and Livingston and Central and Zachary aren't big enough to overcome that.

I'm a lot more sympathetic to the movement now than I was a few years ago. The amount of money that moves from the unincorporate area to BR City proper is astounding all the while those outside the city are ignored by local leaders. What has really tipped the scales for me was watching the City's reaction and underhanded opposition to the first petition.

I think you're missing the point I was trying to make. The majority white, republican metro council refused to vote on the COA measure so they punted it to the election. The refusal was solely because it was an election year.

St. George doesn't fix the council, or the COA since its a parish-wide issue.

If you've been paying attention in the COA threads, I side with every reasonable person on this board that the whole organization needs to be removed of their powers. I voted against the COA property tax.

Fair enough, but I'm confused how St. George is going to fix Parish-wide corruption situations. And are you concluding that Bodi (or any republican) won't fix them?

Broome won by 4,200 votes. Thanks in large part to moderate, white voters in Southdowns, Garden District, Mid-City. Moving them back to a conservative Mayor-President wouldn't be hard with how SWB has handled the first 4 months of her term.

There is a long game to be played here. If St. George were to incorporate, that would put roughly 26% of EBR under Zachary, Central, or St. George and a little over 50% under BR proper. With numbers that close, you may be able to start a movement to separate the positions of Mayor of BR and Parish President. Without a unified Parish-City government, the Parish would be a lot less powerful over St. George and the leaders of BR City would have no power over them.

Just don't end up like st louis city/county with 96 municipalitis within the county all seemingly working against each other in terms of development.

Yeah, one would be hoping it would be more like Hoover or Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

You'd still have the same demographics voting for the Parish President. Which is my whole point. Spend the effort flipping the 4,200 moderate voters and have oversight and leadership for the whole City-Parish vs. playing an extremely long and risky game.

Oh, and don't run a canidiate as terrible as Bodi.

I don't disagree, you are correct about the Council. They aren't working for the best interests of the whole.

My thinking would be with a new city you'd have better control of your tax dollars than you do now.

But the total picture is bleak. There are no good govt. forces than can slow down what's going on. The Council should but they don't.

Yes, but their effective power would be tremendously diminished.

It's not just the mayor's office; BREC, the Library, etc. are parish wide. Look at the taxes they take in and who controls how it's spent.

Russisn can tell you about the millions BREC has socked away.

I know things like the Fire dept and PD would be run through St. George but what else would it mean?

It would mean people paying higher taxes to line Lionel Rainey & Friends' pockets, resulting in lower quality of life for the residents of both Baton Rouge and "St. George".

Not necessarily.

The reason Sandy Springs, GA was used as a model during the prior incorporation effort is to illustrate a city government with a smaller footprint, greater accountability, and hopefully less graft and corruption as a result.

If the citizenry will accept a corrupt government then they get what they deserve.

What a load of crap.

The people who are lining their pockets are in the COA, working on the Tram project, own land at Pecue and I-10, have downtown interests, and on and on.

I don't know anything about Rainey, but I know enough to say there are plenty of crooks in EBR right now. Just read the newspaper.

As for higher taxes, did you watch what they did for CATS? They want to do the same for the Tram too. They also got us all with the COA tax. The big tax and spenders are at city hall.

Aren't they changing the boundaries of St. George this time around?

Does anyone know the new proposed boundaries?

It will take a 2/3 approval vote by both houses of the legislature to put the ISD initiative on a statewide ballot for voters to approve by majority vote. The initiative would also have to pass within the city of SG, which it would, and also by the voters within the EBR school district, which it won't.

Inaccurate. There were two bills put forth to help establish the Southeast BR ISD, one was to establish the boundaries of the school district, the other to secure the MFP funding.. The school district boundaries bill passed and was signed into law. The funding bill failed. Half the battle was won. During the debate in the Senate it was said that it was unheard of that an unincorporated area have an ISD, it would be better if it was done in a city. (hence the birth of the incorporation effort). Also, when the MFP effort comes back, it will require 2/3 of the legislature, but the entire state will vote on it not only EBR.
