Looking at their Black Friday sales on their website. Are they good deals or lower quality? Saw a couple of people griping in reviews that they were but I know sometimes those can be taken with a grain of salt.

They are one of the best. You just need to get a last that fits well.

You can send them back in for recrafting once they wear out.

Buy shoe trees, alternate shoes during the week, and find a cobbler you trust.

I generally don't even bother with online reviews. Think about it, you aren't going to go out of your way to write a review if they product is what you thought it'd be. Only if you hate it or vaery rarely if you love it. Most reviews are people that are salty that they didn't get their way even though they got what they ordered.

sometimes they do "Factory seconds" sales which have minor cosmetic flaws

but i dont think the BF sale is that.

i have two regular pairs and one "factory second" pair, cant tell the difference in quality fwiw

I’ve got three pair that I’ve had for 10 years. They still look and wear great. Excellent shoes.

Only thing I noticed I didn't like was they have a limited offering of shoes w removable insoles. I have no arches and have to use inserts. Frustrating.

Great shoes, bought them for 30 years, but they can F off. I would order my AE's from a small shoe store in Sherman, Texas (where I had been doing business for 30 years) and last year AE cut them off (they were paring down small shoe store sellers).

I also had a couple of shoes with toe cap creases (after just 4-5 wearings) and AE wasn't exactly on top of it when I sent them my concern/complaint.

So, I switched to Alden.

Which ones hold up best in a hobo lifestyle? Riding the rails and living free.

I actually have a pair of AE's, the first I bought that did not have leather soles, and I wear them down when I'm taking train photos. I walk on ballast. I walk around the farm in them. I treat them like absolute shite and they wear like iron. I wear them with jeans. The shoes are tan and creased early for some reason (so no good for dress wear) but they are my favorite casual shoes and I'm on my third resoling of rubber soled shoes.

The Road Warriors are extremely comfortable. They’re legitimately more comfortable than my tennis shoes

Not a dress shoe but great with jeans or casual slacks

They’re great

I’ve got 4 pairs and they all look great and are quality made

And as said before, a huge plus is you can send them to redone several times over

So while $300+ is a lot for a shoe, it’s not much for a shoe that’s going to last 20 years

Before i bought these i was buying a new pair of dress shoes every couple years for $140 or so

I consider it a great investment and it’s an incredibly comfortable and handsome shoe

OT Baller shoes. No prices in the catalog!!!

I'm guessing my Johnston and Murphy are too plebian.

I LOVE good dress, shoes, though, some beautiful things on both of those sites.

I wear both AE and some Goretex Ecco dress shoes. The latter is (of course) a bit warmer but are fantastic when it snows around here. There's nothing worse than stepping into a puddle of ice cold water and the Goretex handles that very nicely.

I ordered a pair of boots a month ago that were “in stock”. No delivery ETA. A lot of the stuff on their website is backordered which is uncommon. I wonder if something is up with their production.

AE has some very loyal customers. The reviews found on their site generally begin “I’ve got a dozen pair of AE’s, theyre great BUT THESE...”
And I find them to be helpful. Many people wrote reviews saying that the Randolph loafer didn’t fit in their normal size. I ignored all this, and sure enough my heels slipped big time.

My main issue with AE is that some lasts work for me while some don’t at all. I have figured out that the Acheson and Lake Forest work best for me, unfortunately Park Aves don’t at all.
