I agree, but the vapid will probably be the primary audience by virtue of them caring about the personalities. And to be clear, they don't care about them for any of the reasons you reference. I agree it will have interest for history-minded folks like us.

But you're going to have American style experts in a booth talking about the designers being worn at WA

then explain the mania surrounding "princess Di"

I mean, she became a celebrity in the wake of her attachment to the royal household. While not the girl who grew up nextdoor, she was more of a “commoner” than anyone in the Royal line.

She was also young and attractive. And I believe a participant in the first major Royal wedding to an heir since QEII and Philip.

Is it that shocking she became that popular? Look who we put on a pedestal as an American society.

You know she’s only head of state right? Her position is ceremonial and a tether to England’s past. She doesn’t govern.

The amount of people who don't know this is staggering.

The whole monarchy is nothing short of homage to days long gone, a living symbolic historical artifact.

No doubt. I’ve been waiting/wondering all my life to see what would happen had she died, how they would handle it.

Look for a serious push in New Zealand to abolish the monarchy, and for a lesser but still significant push in Canada and Australia.

She would have to basically disown Charles to have the throne skip him. Would be a massive public insult to him and honestly his family tree.

I agree William at least hasn’t publicly done anything to remove himself from consideration for the crown

She's a 96 year old lady so that's probably realistic.

I spent the last four days of my mom's life sitting by her bedside at her assisted living facility, she was so cold that the thermostat must have been set at around 95, I was sweating in that room, wasn't leaving though

There's power there, but likely more behind the scenes. Look at the net worth of the Royal Family

Likely in 100 years, Great Britain will be a Muslim state.

The monarchy now is about tourism dollars.

Has anyone ever watched any of those YouTube videos explaining the whole procedure for what occurs as soon as the Queen dies? There is a very elaborate set of events that goes into motion the moment she dies. It is pretty interesting, even if you don't care much about the Royal Family. Here is one such video: YouTube

Watching BBC news now. All of the newscasters seem to be wearing black. I think she has passed already. She looked pretty bad while meeting the new Prime Minister

Considering what “democracy” has done to Western Europe, I’d say they were better off ruled by real Kings.

So BBC One has suspended all of their regular programming until 6:00 pm (their time).

These are full details of what will happen when she passes.

quote:

So, once London Bridge is down, the Queen's private secretary Sir Edward Young, KCVO will be responsible for informing the Prime Minister before the information is released to the 15 other countries where the Queen is head of state and the rest of the 36 Commonwealth nations. This is done by the Foreign Office’s Global Response Centre which is housed at an unknown location in London.

The first time the public becomes aware of her death is when a notice is placed on the gates of Buckingham Palace. All staff will wear a black armband on the left arm, which must measure three-and-a-quarter inches wide.
A statement will then be released to the Press Association and other news outlets. At this stage main TV channels will pull regular programmes and newsreaders will wear black suits and ties. DJs on-air will see a blue light flash, which means to cut to news ASAP. And blanket coverage will begin.

quote:

As soon as Queen Elizabeth dies, Prince Charles will become king. He is permitted to choose his own name, and is expected to become King Charles III. At this stage, a meeting of the Accession Council will take place at St James' Palace and all formalities will take place. He will be named King one day after the Queen's death and after his siblings have ceremoniously kissed his hand. Proclamations will be made and while the Queen lies in state, Charles will visit Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. His first words as monarch will take place at St James's Palace.

quote:

There will be an expected 10 days between the Queen's death and her funeral during this time her body will remain at Buckingham Palace so the family can spend time together. She will then be moved to Westminister Hall where she will lie in state for a number of days so the public can pay their respects. More than 200,000 people visited the Queen Mother's body in 2002. And then, on the 10th day, the Queen's body will be moved to Westminister Abbey for a state funeral. The funeral will be attended by state officials from all over the world and will be coordinated by the armed forces and Government.

quote:

If the Queen dies while in Balmoral, things change slightly. Her body will be moved to Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh and then carried up the Royal Mile to St. Giles Cathedral for a funeral service. By then the public will be notified and will likely line up to throw flowers at the Royal Train, which will carry the body back to London for the burial service.

So another John McCain type funeral only this one is a legitimate month long celebration not one propped up by NBC

I imagine Princess Anne will take over a lot of her horse business if she wasn’t already involved.

Shame Princess Anne isn’t inheriting. I think she’s the only one that has any fricking sense of the bunch.
