Was it brand new or perfectly clean? Glass will do that if brand new. Especially if you boil water in the microwave past the point of boiling where you're actually superheating water (or in your case food).

Probably a Chinese made knockoff.

I did. Not fun. Took me six months to get all the glass up.

If it had a small chip,or crack in it before Pyrex will do that. They recommend when it does have a small crack or chip to throw it away because this could happen. Glad no one got hurt

Dang. Just cooked some food in a glass pan, took it out and put it on the counter and the whole pan exploded and shattered everywhere. Anyone had that happen before?
And people are saying it is safer to stay home.

All current US market pyrex is made in China all Pyrex was made by Corning and made from borosilcate glass.

ETA I should have explained when Corning sold the Pyrex name the company that owns the name moved all production to China and went from boro to soda lime glass and the P in Pyrex is no longer capitalized.
They strike again.

So it would be worth it to seek out old Pyrex at flea markets?

It was a much higher quality product made from a superior material for the task. So if you use Pyrex then it is certainly a smart idea to seek out capital P dishes that are in good condition.

Once saw a pyrex bowl in an old ladies microwave. She must have made an old lady error or her old arse microwave with a crank-dial timer malfunctioned.
The bowl had fused to the glass plate that every microwave has in the bottom. Old microwave too so it was a big solid piece. The bowl had broken after it fused because it was just a plate with a deadly crown of huge curved shards of glass embedded in it.
One of you guys would have to tell me the temp at which glass melts that well.

Had this happen in the oven once. Ruined a good meatloaf.

I am dubious that it was Pyrex. Pyrex has a slumping temp of about ~1700 F and a melting temp of ~2300 F. My wife's fairly small slumping kiln takes about 30 mins to ramp up to 1700 degrees and it draws 47 amps and has very significant insulation. Soda-lime slumping and working temps are about half that of boro.

You are correct. I have old and new and only use the new if the old is in use already.
