So? You don't look forward to time off from your job at times?

None of us? Not one? Could sit in a KG class and play games that teach letters and numbers?

All day? Sure it’s not from 8:15 am to 3:15 pm with an hour for lunch and planning periods without kids during the day?

Every day? Sure it’s not only Monday through Friday? Sure it’s not every Monday through Friday? Maybe only 36 weeks out of the year? How many of those 36 weeks are test days with no teaching? How many are e-learning?

I could go on all day with this. But the fact is I agree that teaching is hard. But it is mostly hard because the people that choose to do it are not usually the best and the brightest. They are not the people with the best emotional coping skills. They are slightly above average people who either have a heart to help others (that is good) or they have a desire to work as few days each year as possible (that is not good).

I am not belittling them. But I am not going to hold them in high regard either. They get paid very well to work very few hours per week and very few days per year.

Ehhh, this one is understandable, The last day before break was a shite show. Usually a half day, and a party, with chaos and parents everywhere, everyone anxious to get away for Christmas. Two weeks away and teachers go into work without the kids and get their ducks in a row for the semester. Its not like they are sitting at home.

Sounds like you should go be one. You know there is a shortage all over the country - like a huge shortage. Sounds like you could fill the void. You and 150 teenagers for 7 hours. You want to sign up?

We all know the answer to that. I’m sure that he already has a job that’s twice as important and makes twice as much money as any public school teacher.

But basically you don't know shite about frick. Hopefully this helps.

quote:

Teachers are contracted to work a certain number of days for a certain amount of pay. They get X amount of days off for holidays/summer in which they are not paid, hence the low salary. That salary is spread evenly throughout the year so that they receive a paycheck either biweekly or monthly. However, many teachers spend several weeks during the summer prepping their classroom for the school year for free, and many must spend extra time at night grading papers or inputting data that they were unable to do while watching 20 kids all day. Most teachers get 1-2 sick days a year and no PTO. Unexpected school closures due to weather are not up to the teachers. That is a district decision. So the teachers are not inconveniencing the parents due to abrupt school closures. I'm not saying teachers are heros. That label is for military veterans who have served.

It vastly changed my mind, thanks.

My sister got 8 days for Christmas, 3 days for thanksgiving, 3 days for Mardi Gras and gets out May 27th and returns August 1st. My wife gets the same amount of time off during holidays, just not the summer, but she gets 20 days vacation/sick time plus OT or comp time. She also makes twice what my sister makes. My word.

There is a shortage - surely you can come show them how’s it done - you know do videos and PD to show them - or go into administration bc you can’t teach and then bitch at the actual rubber meets the road people - show them how to deal with 25 hormone raging teenagers - you got the answers - I’m sure they would love your insight - everyone talks about what a great job it is and teaching ain’t shite, yet there is a national shortage of about 40% - LOL

Oh, so you are saying it is inconvenient for parents that they kids are out of school while they have to work. Do tell us more.

This is a great case for less days off school!
