Worked in the old west anyway. People killed eachother usually enemies and sure it was pretty lawless... you did not have freaks killing innocent people on a major scale like we see today. Enough is enough.

If it's so successful, why didn't it prevent people from murdering back in the day?

The perceived lawlessness of the Wild West is largely a product of Hollywood and pulp novels. People think it was nothing but bandits riding around shooting people.

There are so many other variables that are different now vs then. For one thing the fact that any random shmo can buy an AR-15 or some other comparable assault rifle is a lot different than being able to afford a lever action rifle or a shotgun and MAYBE a pistol as well.

All these proposed solutions I see deal with after the crime has occurred which is largely pointless. It's the same line of thinking that makes us have to take off our damn shoes at the airport.

The US has an estimated 101 guns per 100 people. Let that sink in: we have more guns than we have people. 2nd on the list is Serbia at 58.21/100ppl. It is absolutely insane that Americans view guns as a necessity. If we change the culture of glorifying the home arsenal, along with much more stringent ownership laws (you can still have your guns, but just like driving a car you should have to prove that you should be allowed), the number of deaths will decrease.

Why do we allow these known, admitted killers to live out their natural lives? Why not end their lives immediately. Doesn’t have to be public, but if you murder someone you should be clipped, not sit in prison for what could realistically be 80 years for this kid.

String em up. Start using the firing squads again, locking people in cages to live out their life after they’ve murdered multiple people is way dumber than just killing the killer.

Ond solution should be not to give kids adderall/riddlelin or any kid of psychiatric drug at the first sign that they're a bit wild or are disruptive in class. I'd bet most of the killers have been on some meds like that.

As shitty as politicians are I'm thankful that people like this moron have no power at all.

We'd be back in the dark ages

While I agree this is likely the only solution, I do believe a public hanging of a sitting President is a federal crime.

Yep, education, fixing mental health problems and yes, working to get a lot of these guns off the street are the only real answers. Any solution has to be multi-faceted and it is going to take time and commitment from a wide range of people.

Meh.

I vote life imprisonment with an endless loop of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer running on every surface of the cell and never being allowed outside the cell (just cold hose it out for "cleanliness" with the killer still inside.)

What? You mean some of the most severely disturbed individuals in society were on medications that attempt to minimize the disturbance?

How odd.

So I posted this earlier in the Poliboard where we have an idiot over there saying the same thing, but I want to preface this by saying shame on everyone who upvoted the OP:

I'm going to link this piece published by the National Review yesterday and some quotes: Don't Name Mass Shooters

quote:

But then there is this insight: Mass killings, like viruses, seem to be contagious. It isn’t news that behaviors are catching. Sociologists have long known that suicide, for example, prompts imitators, especially among the young. Researchers at Arizona State University have studied mass murders (particularly school shootings) and found that each new episode does inspire copy cats.

We also know that some of the mass shooters have expressed fascination with their predecessors. The Oregon shooter, for example, had written of another: “A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. . . . Seems the more people you kill, the more you’re in the limelight.”

quote:

he second Fort Hood shooter, weirdly enough, seemed to decry the attention paid to killers. He posted on Facebook: “These bastards have perfected their way of attacking by studying previous massacres to gain publicity and their minute of fame as a villain.” He then went on to commit a mass shooting himself. An Everett, Wash., man was arrested on Wednesday after his grandparents reported to police that he was “learning from past shooters.”

The sick desire for fame — even when purchased through atrocity — seems to be at work in many of these cases. Would denying them the attention they seek diminish the attraction?

quote:

Of the 69 mass shootings since Columbine High School, four were committed by Islamic extremists, and others (the Sikh temple, Charleston) by racists. But the overwhelming majority were the work of men whose motivations probably include a lust for fame.

But instead lets throw a state fair for them, broadcast them all over TV, and give them a pretty conventional death that they probably won't mind and likely actively contemplated to give them a blaze of glory. It's such a bad idea, I think it could accelerate this into a death cult if we did as the OP is proposing. He is proposing actively turning these people into martyrs. Shame on anyone who upvoted the OPs suggestion.

Personally I think if you kill more than 5 people, and you have 5 or more witnesses or are caught doing it on film, I vote that you don't get an appeal, and right after the verdict (which should not be televised at all) that they take you behind the courthouse, shoot you in the back of the head, and then throw you in some unmarked grave so no one can turn it into a shrine.
