Going down internet rabbit holes as one does, I came across a few blogs of adventurers/crazy people who paddle the length of the Mississippi from the headwaters
in Lake Itasca, Minnesota in fricking rowboats, canoes, and kayaks. It seems there really is no limit to the diversity of hobbies people can engage in.

Most of them take about two to three months to complete the journey. Here's a link to a blog of a guy who did it in 2017.

And as it so happens there's a couple documenting their own journey via youtube who just passed through Baton Rouge a week ago:

What does the OT think? How many of you baws could dodge river traffic past all the plants and casinos and get into the gulf?

Friend of mine did this during Covid. It seemed like the shallow water and locks up north were much harder to navigate then down south.

The true psychos are the ones who paddle UP the entire Mississippi River.

If I were a teacher I would do this sort of thing with all the free time I'd have. Some folks doing this passed through earlier this year, they seemed happy.

I think Dale Brown did that one year when I was at LSU, did it in a powerboat though, sounds like a cool trip

It seemed so fun reading about Huckleberry Finn doing it, but I’d never. I bet those psychos have some fun stories to read.

When I was stationed at MARFORRES in New Orleans, a veteran did it. I remember having to get in formation and the Marine Corps band played as he landed for a few minutes and spoke to us.

It’d be fun until you get caught in the undertow.

I've always wanted to do that. What I don't get is most of these peeps never wear a PFD.

That would be a great trip.

The Quapaw Canoe company in Clarksdale,Ms offers many different trips. The owner,John Ruskey ,paddled from St.Louis up the Missouri River to its headwaters. They did this to reenact the Lewis and Clark Expedition for the History Channel. QuaPaw Canoe.

His site also has some good reading on canoeing the river as does the OP. Thanks for the links.

For anyone that’s want to paddle the river call Quapaw. You can also enjoy the Blue’s in Clarksdale.

A friend of mine did that in 2019 or so. It had been one of his lifelong dreams. He had to have Triple Bypass Heart surgery the year before. The surgery made him re-evaluate his priorities. So he recovered from the surgery, quit his job, paddled the Mississippi then opened a Gunsmith business with his Dad.

I thought people doing this was common knowledge. Sounds like an awesome adventure

Now that we’re on the topic, I’ve had this crazy idea floating in my head for a few years to paddle from BR to New Orleans. You can theoretically put in at Dawson Creek (after some rain) and connect all the way to NOLA.

I’m aware that this is probably much, much harder than it sounds

My fishing buddy and I wanted to fish our way down the Mississippi, but that was over a half a century ago.

Those people are crazy. I wouldn't paddle down Bayou Fountain much less the mighty Mississipp. The Old Miss. The Old Man.
