With people my age involved in so much government on so many levels it is beyond me why this is not legal yet?

I’m for legalization personally but Arkansas already has enough white progressives moving there, now it’s going to be even more

Hopefully will encourage Louisiana politicians to get on the ball and forget about lining their pockets or appeasing the Sheriff's Association.

The Sheriffs are the most powerful politicians in Louisiana. The lining of pockets comes with legalizing [just ask Paula Davis’ (BR-R) husband]. This just shows how powerful the sheriffs are that we haven’t legalized with the husband of one of the most prominent legislators as the CEO of one of the two growers.

I’d go further and suggest the states treat it like marigolds, turnips, or bell peppers. No special taxes or goofy rules. Plant, grow, enjoy

Exactly. Imagine actual freedom. Same with producing your own spirits. God forbid anyone become self reliant and not cut the govt in on what they feel is theirs.

Louisiana politicians could line their pockets so much more with recreational weed, but it will ever happen.

Arkansas is going for the first state in the south to legalize recreational marijuana in 2022.

Even if it this happens I'm sure they'll find some way to delay implementation for like 2-3 years. Medical took almost 3 years from amendment passage to the first dispensary license being issued. It seems silly to me that we're still having this discussion in 2022. I don't personally use, but, it's time to move on from this discussion.

That is the key. They will want a large portion of tax money going to them.

I forgot what show I was watching but they interviewed some sheriff in Kentucky. And he was saying as long as I’m around weed won’t be legalized here.

Definitely a lot of people with that stance still because it makes them money.

That’s basically what more than one state legislator said regarding the LA push last year. They admitted it was a losing battle to stay opposed to legalization but they weren’t gonna be the ones to make the change.

So basically admitting their position is a loser but too entrenched for unspoken reasons to change their stance. Lovely work going on in the capitol building.

Probably to give them time to implement regulations related to growing and distribution. bullshite mostly.

Louisiana won’t seriously debate recreational legalization this year because we can’t pass a new tax in an even numbered year. The Sheriffs likely have the juice to shelve it in 2023 and thus put it off til 2025 at the earliest wherein the legislature will do something similar to VA pushing actual recreational sales back to 2027.
