Just remember , most people on this board and in this state hate Jindal. He didn’t raise a single tax in 8 years and CUT the budget every year he was in office.

Louisiana will never change unless they get a credible public education system. It will be difficult to attract big companies without that. It is the reason Texas left us in the dust sixty years ago. Texas has grown by 17 million people in that timeframe while Louisiana has only grown by 1.2 million. Every state in the South outpaced us except for two. You all know which two without looking it up.

He is a clown, none of these budget numbers have the 500 to 800 million dollar cost of repaying the Fed govt back for his backroom agreement with Nungusser for killing the diversion. They also announce how they have secured roughly 8 billion for coastal work. They fail to mention the majority of this work is cost share. The fed govt. will pay 65% we pay 35%. Since we will be giving the fed govt the 500 million for the killing of the diversion we will never get any of the money they announced they secured.

Landry is waiting on Trump to wave a magic wand and make that repayment go away. Still, the issue with that is the contractors aren't going to be the ones to eat the loss.

Love it.

I said he "has not prioritized real issues in our state". That, my friend, is what we call the "past tense".

I'm sure you have so many jaw dropping moves in mind...please share

Jaw dropping? Nah. Common sense government spending cuts across the board? Yeah. Consolidating Louisiana universities? Yeah. Re-allocation of law enforcement funds away from non-violent drug offenders towards violent crime enforcement? Yeah. New legislation (or removal of old) that limits/knocks down litigiousness in our state? Yeah. Adjusting TOPS to stop the brain drain in our state? Yeah.

Now, we could get really deep and talk about re-doing the state constitution.

I’m in agreement, consumption taxes catch everyone equally and even some of the dirty money.

Can't make this shut up.

The deficit was only happening because of the expiring 0.45% sales tax. It was assumed that the legislators would allow it to expire and figure out how to reduce the budget. Instead, they made it permanent which solved the deficit issue.

The rest of the sales tax increase (0.55%) was to pay for the income/corporate tax cuts.

Correct. Jon Bel left Landry with this stink bomb.

He rolled in 8 years ago declaring that wd had a crisis. Jindal left a huge deficit and it had to be fixed.

He pushed through the largest tax increase in La. history. It was touted as a temporary tax. That temporary tax is still in place and our economy has not grown enough to expand and pay for all the extra spending.

In comes Landry who wants to reform the tax code, but doesn’t want to cut spending.

The changes to the income tax rates were part of what was causing the deficit.

I am going to save nearly 20k for the Income Tax cut. I am all for it. The additional consumption tax won't come close to making that number up. Maybe it would cost me an additional $2200 in sales/consumption tax.

How much of that will be replaced by federal income tax? 34%

Heard the were thinking of expanding the sales tax to real estate soon. They will probably raise sin taxes next, followed by the real estate sales tax so that they can get rid of all the business taxes.
