Well I think you're being a little unfair to drugs, they're pretty awesome.

frick all these people telling you to be more social, and calling you an a-hole. Stupid shite like "learn to be more social", WTF does that even mean? That's not who you are. And small talk, frick that shite too. And I love how the onus is all on you for this bullshite. It's one thing if they're talking to you and you're ignoring them, ok that's rude, but why is it your responsibility to talk or strike up a conversation? Being quiet is not disrespectful. The hand shaking thing, IDK, unless you went out of your way to not shake his hand or to ignore him when walking in, this sounds sounds like a power play by the count sister.

Being polite & respectful does not include striking up a conversation and small talk just to satisfy someone else's need for attention or their fricked up craving for what they deem to be respectful. A simple hello or other form of greeting will suffice. Some people just aren't as social as others. And for the people saying suck it up and learn to talk more and be more social, why is the opposite of that not viable? Shut the frick up for a change, and stop being offended that someone doesn't entertain your need for unnecessary talking.

So people should just keep having kids until their bottom line is $0 in their modest shack?

Dude, from his own words, he said he sat in the living room by himself while his fiancé visited with the baby and family... theres absolutely nothing you can say to make me think this is OK and normal.. there's no excuse for this type of douchebaggery

OP is in a tough spot. If you or your SO apologize then you can count on 2 or 3 more demands between now and the wedding they will make.

Now I'll agree with that...

Demanding an apology is about as retarded as sitting ina room by yourself while family is visiting

I think you're missing the point...or at least the one I was making.

I'm not a fan of small talk, and even though my wife says I'm actually way more charming than I think I am, I don't feel comfortable in most social situations unless I have a ton in common with whoever it is I'm with.

My in-laws, while really great people who I love, are VERY different from me. We've struggled to find stuff to talk about for about 25 years at this point because we're so different. But...we're all nice people and we like each other, so we both make attempts. I'll ask about hunting trips and they'll ask about LSU stuff. I'm not interested at all in any of their church stuff, and they don't care about whatever nonfiction science book I'm reading they might see on the coffee table. And so on and so on...

So, at least for me, there's a huge difference between needing to be a huge part of a get together when you feel out of place and generally acting like you're not miserable. I mean...I know frick all about combines and rice fields, but when they start talking about that stuff I listen politely anyway. With a little effort and the realization that, to be part of society, we all have to occasionally do some things that are not our favorite things to do, it's not that hard to grin and bear a few hours of some shite you don't love.

For frick's sake...if I can spend a few hours with my brother-in-law who, many years ago when seeing a Jimi Hendrix CD at my wife's apartment, said in front of both of us, "Wait...Jimi Hendrix is a NIGGGER?!?" then this guy can shake a guy's hand and not act like he'd rather be anywhere else than at their house for a few hours.

between full on consumerism and "$0 and a modest shack" there is a lot of middle ground.

And you go on to say drugs are bad but weed is ok? Maybe you are a troll.

What is up with all this wanting to touch other people all the time? Screw that... just say, "Hey, how's it going?" Walk in and be friendly and talkative.

I'm changing my ways. Time we did away with so much touching and hugging people.

I shook their hands. But to do it every time I see them, especially after knowing them for 2.5 years, just seems redundant.

Shaking hands is a norm of American society, no matter what background you come from. Shaking hands is a thing you do with friends because you like them but it's also something you do with family, relatives, for business, etc as a sign of respect. If you have a problem with shaking hands with a person more than once, your problems in life are only beginning.

Dude, also for the sake of your own sanity...Trust me, it is not worth fighting over something as dumb as this. There will be lots more serious things that are worth fighting for with your in-laws. Wait til YOU have kids and you will see.

My advice is if you don't want to talk don't talk. If you are comfortable with the person you are great.
