This.
About half of my wife's family doesn't like me and I don't care. My father in law is cool and none of them live in LA anyway.

Thanks to everyone that has responded. I've been dealing with my social awkwardness since I was a kid. The fact that I'm even getting married is still shocking to me. The whole shaking hands thing is what gets me though. I'm pretty sure when I met her and her husband, I shook their hands. But to do it every time I see them, especially after knowing them for 2.5 years, just seems redundant. Why did it take so long for her to mention she had a problem with it?
For the sake of my fiancee and her sister's relationship, I think I'll apologize and just move on. Like someone said on here, I'm going to be dealing with her for a long while and I should put on my game face and deal with it.

Honestly, and not to bash Millennials because I don't do that, but this sounds kind of like a generational thing. Did you never have "the talk" with your dad?
And by "the talk," I mean, the one where he sits you down and tells you there are going to be times when, as a man, you're going to have to do some thing you might not LIKE doing all that much bu that they are your duties as a man? Going to functions that aren't yours...hanging out with your girlfriend/wife's family, work bullshite, etc.
No one is saying you actually have to love doing everything, but part of being an adult is being able to cope for a few hours with anything and not be a twat about it.
Now go clean your room...

Keep doing what you're doing and you won't have to deal with her. She sounds like a frieken nut job.

Just stop
You seriously don't shake a guys hand when you greet them, unless it's the very first time meeting them?
How do you get through on an everyday basis in the business world?

A) such as?
B) how are those degenerate or hedonistic actions?
I suspect you just threw out a couple big words you don't know the meaning of because I called you stupid like 5 times in the thread.
ETA: I fully expect you to skip my A&B and just reply to the last sentence.

Where is the cutoff? Do you shake his hand every time? If you see him every other day? Once a week? Once a month?
I see my in laws roughly every week or every other week. We never shake hands. My MiL hugs me goodbye every time though.

I have people I see every two weeks or so, and the first thing I do is walk up with some generic phrase like 'hey how's it going', while looking them in the eye and offering my hand.
It completely quells any awkwardness.
The people that don't do this are weird.

Not a terrible question, honestly. I think it really depends on the closeness of the relationship.
After long periods of not seeing them, I'd obviously shake my really good friends' hands. If we lived next door and saw each other every day...? Probably not, no.

I'd shake their hands no question at this rate. If we were on vacation or something and saw them every morning, then no obviously. But yeah...I'm shaking my father in law's hand every time I see him if I see him once a week. Even after nearly 25 years.

Egalitarianism
Feminism
Atheism
Abortion
Homosexuality
Rock n Roll that promotes sex outside of wedlock and drugs
Drugs
Sex outside of wedlock
Rejecting having lots of kids so you can save some extra shekels
Not having any kids at all so you can save your shekels for yourself
I can keep going
Each generation has added on and on to this and now you see the world we live in today.
Sorry I was in the shower.

Maybe not all of these things are bad in limited doses, but they have all helped ruined the culture of not only the west but the whole world.
