Like I said, it was never actually honest, but even just 15-20 years ago, the histrionics seemed far lower. Or I could be wearing rose colored glasses. Who knows at this point

Except that if you keep reading the thread, I didn't deflect anything.

I also, genuinely, don't give a shite. I've said multiple times on here that I think the US is overdue for some level of Balkanization.

If Trump had done this, the PT would be living it up, talking about The Art of the Deal, how great it is to have a president who is America First, and asking everyone if they are tired of winning yet.

Because if Trump was doing something I could at least see it as some sort of game to either get them to pay their share or some move against the goddamn commie chinese.

Biden just stumbles and blinders into one fiasco after another, then claims the disaster is “all part of the plan”. His admin openly supports China, the greatest global enemy. And is in cahoots while pissing off, with no reason, all out Allies.

He is torpedo-info our country, and no one pedos like a Biden.

Macron (more correctly “Macaroon”) grandstanding for votes.

Probably his aged wife told him to do it.

Nothing to see here folks, move along.

They are a pseudo ally, at best, to keep tourist dollars from US coming in and to remain part of NATO.

Well, over the past 30 years, there has been a struggle between the old Gaullist school of foreign relations and a younger group that was more open to firmer relationships with the Anglosphere. More express defense pacts, other than NATO, were a result of the younger school beginning to win out in some ways. The proposed deal with Australia was also part of one of these pacts. Our interest in promoting this younger school was wanting France’s help with things such as European immigration issues, terrorism, particularly in Africa, and a more firm stance against China.

The way this was handled is embarrassing for that group of more pro-Anglo French, and is being exploited by the Gaullists.

It’s not such a good thing, but hey, I guess we get to make fun of the French, so there’s that.

Choosing the Aussies over the French might backfire.

Instead, he's managed to piss off our closest ally (Britain) in regards to how we handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan and our oldest ally (France) in regards to this new agreement between ourselves, the British and Australia.

You do know the UK is a co-signatory of the US-Australian pact right?

Meaning, while this may have thrown a wrench into US-French relations, it may have helped restore faith in US-UK relations.

Edit: Maybe “restore faith” is a bit too optimistic at this point, but it is technically the US-UK-Australian defense pact, so the UK still seems willing to go along with us as a major military partner.

When I talk balkanization, I don't mean splitting the country in two between idiot Democrats and idiot Republicans. The starting politics of each zone wouldn't be as important as merely creating small enough areas that people actually have a shot at reigning in government.

But to directly answer your question as best I can, the most libertarian one, all else equal. But the reality is that, unless the region Baton Rouge would find itself in was batshit insane, I'd probably just stay and try to shape it going forward. Which, frankly, is what I think 95% of the population would do.

But that's my point. People on here aren't throwing shite at Biden because of what he actually did; they are throwing shite because the baseline assumption is that anything he does is wrong, per se. It was the same shite with Trump. Everyone fricking sucks.

Not any more. Despite the angst, Australia has been sucking up to the Chinese for investment.

Which was one part of why we entered into this deal, and I think that’s a good thing. Again, I don’t think the French are so pissed about the loss of the contract. It was more of the way in which this was handled. We completely cut them out of the conversation.

So what? Britain is a member of the FVEYs alliance, too. They are SUPPOSED to be one of our closest allies by treaty. We shouldn't have to hold a carrot out on a stick to get them to continue to like us.

The Federalist conducted a Quasi-War against the French. And the French didn’t support the Iraq War.

There have been a fair share of bumps in the road in US-France relations.
