Lots of reports of people trapped in Arabi per Fox 8

Prayers to all those impacted by the storms. Hope you all make it through safe. Looks like we have a more stable atmosphere here and it will die down as it moves east. Fingers crossed as middle of night storms are scary as hell.

You happy there was a tornado? I know you were getting upset there for a second. For the record it happened well after the school day and work day were over. That was my complaint.

Anyone know if the Jackson Barracks was in the path? Have family just on the very eastern edge of the barracks

I had a PITA day today with 2 remote kids, that said I still aren’t going to second guess this shite.

Seems like it was in the area of the barracks. Not exactly sure.

Appears nearby based on a photo I saw.

I have some serious PTSD after Ida rolled through. Man, she was a bitch

The cell that produced the NOLA tornado passed about 5 miles or so to my north around Larose at around 6:45. At my location, we had some gusty winds and decent rain at the time but nothing unusual. The storm really ramped up over the Lake Des Allemands area before reaching the Westbank.

Pictures from Arabie are pretty bad. Lots of damage in that part of NOLA. Probably an EF2.

My sister lives in Arabi. Luckily they don't seem to have any huge amount of damage.

Saw this comparison earlier and had to do a side by side.
New Orleans on top (tonight) and Tuscaloosa (4/27/11) on the bottom. Not comparing the strengths, but the looks.
VERY spooky. The NOLA image is from @wdsu.

Good grief that is scary. Thoughts and prayers to everyone impacted. Stay strong over there.

The environment that made this possible was in place all day. LIX sounding at 1 pm was exceptional. Low probability but high risk. Luckily it didnt happen until later but you get something like this during schools letting out or rush hour...
This was a risk all day, which is why it was warned more than a normal cold front.

I believe you have highlighted the disconnect some people have with severe weather forecasting.
