Now we know the source of the vibe that Broome wants to emulate for Baton Rouge

People moan about things now. The 70s sucked way worse on about every level except the music.
But even with that we had to deal with 8 tracks.

Things are infinitely better now if people would get out of the conspiracy/social media/bad news cycle they put themselves in.

Video of 1977 world series game with raging fire happening blocks from Yankee stadium

I remember watching that game live when I was a kid. I was 7 years old and just beginning to recognize things beyond my own little world.

That, the way the city always seemed to look on TV, the Son of Sam murders, and the '77 blackout that summer with all the looters made me feel like New York City was such a cold, bleak, and treacherous place which pretty much colored my views on NYC for many years afterwards.

I first got to see it in person only after Giuliani and it was so much different than what I had imagined it to be. It's a shame it seems to be headed back to those dark days of the 70's and 80's.

Lol these pictures are 15+ years before Giuliani was even mayor. May as well post pictures from the Great Depression and label them as pre-Reagan America.

Lol I never equated the time difference these photos/Guiliani’s time as mayor and the Great Depression/Reagan. I was simply making the point that such a considerable amount of time occurred between these photos and Giuliani’s time as mayor that labeling them as “pre-Guiliani” is a little silly.

This period of time in NYC is fascinating to me. In so many facets. Not far from the Burning Bronx, Studio 55 is popping with all the excesses America had to offer. The birth of hip hop out of, essentially, what we’re seeing in these pics. So much of it just the antithesis of what “America” was portrayed as.

Hell, Giuliani was a Democrat when the pics were taken.

Gene Hackman in one of the all time great cops and the mob movies.

The scene of him in the car chasing the elevated subway was crazy.

No CGI back then.

1977 was kind of the pinnacle of the decay. Son of Sam. Summer blackout with looting everywhere. The Bronx burning. The city literally on the verge of bankruptcy.

Ed Koch won the mayoral race that year on a platform of “a liberal with sanity”. He would be considered a MAGA Republican today, but he did a lot to get the city turned around. Reagan being POTUS in the 80’s helped “rebuild” the city.

Unfortunately, things got to be “too nice”. Which allowed ridiculously idealistic and completely illogical liberals to regain power. You’re seeing the results of their “leadership” every day.

Eventually the people will get tired of the shite and the pendulum will swing the other way. They city will improve again, which will eventually usher in more absurd liberal leadership….the cycle will continue.

They’re infinitely better now, but they’re going to be bad if inflation roars in the face of stagnated growth. The 70s followed a period of great prosperity and economic expansion.

Anybody who does not immediately want to turn all the neighborhood kids into the opposite sex or welcome 1m+ "undocumented" immigrants (just not in NYC thats (d)ifferent) is labeled a MAGA republican.

You saw it with Tulsi Gabbard. She switches and five minutes later she is a MAGA??? Okay sure...

Can only imagine what the city looks like now. Remind me to stay away from NYC. Was America in decline in the seventies? Absolutely.

Then Creepy Joe Biden showed up.

I completely believe in innocent until proven guilty but these progressive judges and DAs have already gotten hundreds of people killed by letting some people out on bail. I was in Houston this week and I don’t want to exaggerate the number but they had billboards saying something like “150 murders in Harris County by people out on bail since 2018 (when a bunch of progressive judges were elected)”
