Powerful lasers may be able to burn a hole through the fabric of spacetime

In answer to the question in the other thread about why aliens would bother with our primitive species, we're getting less primitive by the day, and we're starting to learn things that could impact physical reality in ways we're not able to comprehend yet. Nobody notices a three year old with a toy train. Give him a gallon of gas and some matches, and suddenly he has everybody's attention.

The prestigious academic physics journal Physical Review Letters published a paper this week about cutting-edge laser tech — and, if bloggers are to be believed, it could have juicy ramifications.
The paper itself is dry and technical, but the prominent tech blog Ars Technica‘s interpretation of its findings is anything but. According to Ars, in fact, the tech it describes could pulse a laser “through fabric of the Universe.”
Plasma Mirror
A key problem with super-powerful lasers, according to Ars’ explanation, is that they tend to shred anything you use to focus the beam.
The idea behind the paper, by a researcher at the Université Paris-Saclay, is that you could use a mirror made out of plasma — you know, the ultra-hot stuff the Sun is made out of — to focus the beam.
From Beyond
And if they can pull that off, according to Ars — we should point out again that this all sounds very hypothetical — the laser could tear into “the very fabric of space and time.”
“Will it work in reality? I think so,” wrote Ars writer Chris Lee. “Then, of course, they can all stare in wonder at the hole they made.”

We've got laser space travel and BR can't get a loop. Smdh.

We were also scared of the Higgs Bosun particle.

That's exactly how you let the demogorgons in.

They said the same thing about the atom bomb and the Hadron Collider. Every time a scientist comes up with one of these doomsday devices it's the same thing. We all get our hopes up thinking this might be it, then the universe just keeps on going. I'll believe it when I see it.

Then....we put it on a shark head and rule the universe

What could possibly go wrong?

We've got laser space travel

Plasma mirrors were all the rage a few years ago when petawatt lasers were all fresh and new. The idea is actually very simple. A plasma is a gas of conducting particles, with its electrons being very light and easy to move around. When light hits the plasma, the electrons are accelerated back and forth, following the light’s electric field. In doing so, the electrons absorb and re-emit the light in the opposite direction. In other words, the light reflects from the plasma, just like it does from a chrome bumper. A plasma is basically already as destroyed as a material can be, so the laser beam cannot damage the plasma.
Aliens are coming stop this shite, bc we are the Russia of the Universe.

So if they can figure it out and can shoot a laser that " tears into the fabric of space and time" does that mean there is some baw in an alternate universe about to get a laser through his carhartts out of nowhere?
If it tears through what happens when it comes out of the other end? What does it hit? Where does it go?

Probably how the Bootes void was created.

If alien life had a telescope that could see Earth from their planet, the closest system would still see dinosaurs.
Speed of light and all.
Speed of light and all.

That's based on the assumption that they're millions of light years away

But how will it impact climate change?
