I seem to recall the names but not sure if I ever ran into them in the Valley. Particularly the late 80s was wild, there were well over 100 new routes every year and the place was crawling with climbers. It was what I consider the pinnacle of new routes, before the 90s hit and climbers started moving into super hard sport routes and the hard men started looking for new big walls all over the world. The Valley started being mainly for the epic climbs like Dawn Wall and Wings of Steel and baggers like me ticking off the classic aid routes and of course the guys like Florine and Croft perfecting simul-climbing and destroying the old speed records.
I really enjoyed it and there are few bonds like climbing partners where you literally place your lives in each other's hands and you each save the others lives so often it becomes mundane.

I climbed with Tom, who had ditched the valley, for ultimately med school, when he lost the guide job in the valley to his friend Josh...who I’m sure still guides.
I climbed with Tom there a good bit in the summers between school, mid 90’s. He seemed to know everyone. I was mostly a sport climber, but Tom could do it all. Camped in the boulders across the valley from a Camp 4 and had a blast.
