But I think people do these things to help them cope a little, which is fine.
It isn’t fine when the “cope” is also considered the “fix”.

If there was action beyond that within communities, it would be fine.

Basketball goals on trailers rolling through neighborhoods, neighborhood walks, midnight basketball, community singing sessions, etc., are all moronic coping mechanisms sold as fixes so that no one has to actually fix the issues.

These actions are a huge issue, IMO.

People need to protest at the candle light vigil; demand change from the judges. Candlelight vigils don't do shite. It's a BS response to what has been an obvious and rampant issue in the city.

I would suggest you google her. There is a long article with photos about her and her anti-cop philosophy in New Orleans Verite from a couple years ago. Alton Stirling protests, her experiences with the law, and violent Baton Rouge neighborhoods. Mention made of Markel in the piece. Better yet pictures of the family at a New Black Panther Party self-protection training camp in AL sitting in lawn chairs and everybody holding weapons. You can’t make this stuff up. Why has none of this made the newspapers or tv? It certainly makes for a very interesting slant on a current hot topic story.

No kidding, looks life the Governor missed out on calling out grand parents too!

on another note when has it become legal for 17 year olds to own a vehicle in LA?

"Police said camera footage outside the mall showed the guy getting into a white Honda Accord with damage to the front bumper. Investigators said they were able to use a license plate reader to identify the car and find the owner.

Detectives located the owner, who they said identified the suspected shooter as Markel Lee."

I googled this just now, I had no idea you had to be 18, but that does appear to be the case.

Maybe they just mean his family owned it and he's a registered driver and the primary driver.

These responses and community actions are more tiring than anything else nowadays.

I’d be interested to see how many of these churches have received govt money for “youth programs” over the last decade.

It gives them the ability to say they’re trying without actually having to address the issues and, I suspect, make a little money along the way.

Check out the Capital Outlay bill. That’s where legislators add in their special pet projects including their kick backs to churches, organizations, etc.

I’d be curious to know the age distribution of arrests made in EBR.

What percentage of crime (both violent and property) is committed by minors? And what are the recidivism rates for juvenile offenders?

BATON ROUGE — The 17-year-old accused in last week’s deadly shooting at the Mall of Louisiana had his first court appearance this afternoon for a bond hearing. Commissioner Kory Tauzin ordered Markel Lee held without bond, as is typical in first-degree murder cases. On his other charges, Lee has a combined bond of $1,350,000.

Depending on the judge, that may get lowered to about three fitty.
