Except the Jefferson High Instagram specifically says that they were targeting the flag:

So it clearly says that it was retaliation for them "disrespecting" by walking across the field. The flag comment seems like a joke (and even says a laughing emoji followed it).

I saw that video and glad we got the full story behind the hit. I would hate to think a high school football player, even in Portland, would hit another player for carrying the flag.
Should’ve been 15 yard penalty to start the game and the player should have been suspended for that game because it was blindside hit and not the normal scuffles that sometimes occur pregame with no suspensions.
Should also be an offsides penalty for the handful of usual suspects who feel moved to politicize everything.
Blah blah Portland. The guy carrying the flag was from Portland too.
