Port Allen Intracoastal Bridge starts to see construction after decades of waiting

The orange cones are popping around the Intracoastal Bridge, as a new replacement project will upgrade the two current bridges to make it easier for traffic.

“The bridge is going to be a three-lane bridge, eventually we will have two three-lane bridges in both directions with two 10ft shoulders on each bridge, and so that would give us more compacity to run people,” explains West Baton Rouge Parish President Riley Berthelot.
Gotta love the WAFB editors for letting this article slide.
This is a big issue. There are times during the day where the entire west bank south of the Intracoastal don't have convenient access to emergency rooms due to the traffic tie ups on LA1 and on I-10 Eastbound.
They need to finish the LA415 connector (which is delayed due to having to be rerouted b/c of a major new refinery being built at the port of Baton Rouge), get started on the new bridge somewhere around Brusly or Plaquemine. It would have been nice to have that new LA415 connector done before they reworked LA1, but from what I understand, the intracoastal bridge had some major structural deficiencies and needed to be repaired.

Wait what?

Grön Fuels got their permits. The first phase is going up right on the intracoastal where the LA415 connector was going to be routed. I predict that Phase 1 will be the only phase, but that's a different discussion. For now they are planning on a $9 billion refinery to be built there over the next 10 years in phases.
I don't know how that connector will work unless it's elevated over parts of the container port property, N Line Road, and the railroad tracks.

Yesterday on the evening news whenever they reported on this, the anchor lady called it the “Intercoastal” when she led into the field reporter, who called it the “Intercoastal” twice, while the graphic said “Intercoastal,” and the video showed the actual sign correctly calling it the “Intracoastal.”
Everyone is lazy.

Supposedly they are supposed to extend Hwy 415 and tie into Hwy 1 south of the Intracoastal as well. I don't think I will ever see that in my lifetime, but that would be a huge improvement.

Grön Fuels Announces Potential $9.2 Billion Renewable Fuel Complex in Louisiana
$9.2B project prompts change in La. 1/415 connector route
quote:
Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards and Fidelis Infrastructure co-founders Daniel J. Shapiro and Bengt Jarlsjo announced their portfolio company Grön Fuels LLC is studying the feasibility of a renewable fuel complex at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge. With expansions and associated projects, the complex could involve up to $9.2 billion of total investment over several phases. A final investment decision is expected in 2021, which will determine the final cost of the project’s first phase.
Through all phases and associated projects, the complex would create an estimated 1,025 new direct jobs, with an average annual salary of $98,595, plus benefits. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project and subsequent phases would result in up to 4,560 new indirect jobs, for a total of 5,585 new jobs for the Capital Region.
“This renewable fuel production facility will help to secure Louisiana’s place as a leader in environmentally friendly energy production,” Gov. Edwards said. “Growing global demand for renewable transportation fuels creates a significant growth opportunity for our state. Once again, Louisiana’s port, rail and pipeline infrastructure and other logistical advantages are making possible an important industrial complex that will deliver many quality jobs for our skilled workforce. We look forward to the final investment decision for Grön Fuels to launch this innovative project at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge.”
$9.2B project prompts change in La. 1/415 connector route

PORT ALLEN, La. (The West Side Journal) – The LA Highway 1/ 415 Connector route plans have taken a detour after the announcement in November of a renewable fuel complex on the west bank of the Mississippi River near Port Allen.
The $9.2 billion Grön Fuels complex at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge will use a portion of land near Intracoastal Waterway that was originally pegged for the connector route from La. 415 to La. 1.
“It’s where the original path was supposed to go, but that’s where the facility is going to go, so the state is going to have to redesign that piece of the puzzle,” said state Sen. Rick Ward, R-Port Allen. He serves as head of the Senate Transportation Committee.
The redesign should be complete by summer, he said.
Ward said he does not expect further delays.

So 12 lanes?
Maybe he's talking about both projects, but that's still shitty out-of-cotext editing, WAFB.

That's great and all, about 30-40 years late, but it still makes everyone along that corridor a slave to LA1.
They should be moving just as fast on a new Mississippi River bridge and tying that into the interstate system as part of a southern loop. Completing this would be far more of a boon than adding extra lanes to the Intracoastal.

Pee Wee Berthelot and other parish presidents haven’t been paid yet. Nothing happens till they get to wet their beaks.

And it doesn't matter either. People still vote these same politicians in office over and over again.

It's definitely shitty editing and a complete lack of proofreading.
WAFB used to be pretty good. IDK what happened.
