My beef is not with legitimate business owners. I am not anti-business by any stretch. I am anti abuse of the tax code that results in higher tax burdens on wage earners who are not afforded such luxuries.
My complaint is the bullshite "ranches" and "farms" that are clearly nothing more than hobbies disguised as businesses.

Notice I didn’t call for anything remotely resembling that. I just said that government should get out of the safety net/entitlement business, and that sales and property taxes are superior to income taxes.
Sales and property are superior because they’re easier and more efficient to assess, pay, collect, and enforce. Payroll taxes are a little better, but still allow shady businesses to get away with paying workers cash under the table.
“Income” is such a difficult thing to define that it requires so much work by all involved to figure out what should be income and what shouldn’t be. It’s nearly impossible to enforce and incredibly burdensome to even know how much to pay. Then, you have a government tasked with punishing mistakes and fraud, but unable to stop a fraction. We don’t have these same issues when collecting sales taxes.

Income taxes are EASY for the government to collect -- because they don't even do it. They force employers to do it for them -- for free.

Anything is more regressive than the bottom half getting more back than they paid in income taxes. Plus, property taxes are very progressive, so it evens out. No one ever talks about how regressive payroll taxes are.
