There's a psa ad that a high percentage of cigarette smokers come from low income areas and it's solely bc "big tobacco" targets them and it's ridiculous. People smoke due to stress, anxiety, depression, etc. Obviously those things are going to be more prevalent in lower income areas, those areas are obviously going to experience more stress that lead those issues, it's not targeting it's a simple matter of circumstance that leads to lifestyle situations.
Having said all that I've never smoked, but I have interacted with girls who did smoke that had a positive impact on my life and I didn't judge them based on it.

Or..........stupid people make stupid decisions. Stupid people probably also dont make as much money. This is not an across the board certainty, but probably accounts for 95% of it.
At least half the guys I knew in college would at least smoke while drinking. But I dont know many that continued it as an actual habit long term. The ones that did are the sames ones who constantly are still making stupid decisions and tending bar still at 30 or some shite. Everyone makes stupid decisions, but some choose it as a lifestyle.
