Yeah, the military and police have totally different missions. This is why militarization of police forces is horrible for our country.

While I agree that there is some some logical inconsistency here, I think we ought to also recognize that there are just some things of which we subjectively DO NOT want to become victims. For example, I'm way more comfortable with the idea of dying of heart disease, stroke, cancer, or car accident than I am with the idea of someone breaking into my home and killing me during a burglary. Arguments about how I am statistically far more likely to die of preventable illness or a car accident and thus worry too much about gun ownership just don't resonate strongly with me. I'm simply not as emotionally bothered by those things as I am about being a victim of crime. I can accept if someone has the opinion of "I really, really just don't want to be killed by the police," even if I think such such is incredibly unlikely or frivolous.
