A recession is when your neighbor loses his job .

A depression is when you lose YOUR job .

Nervous about 2026 . A lot of consolidation going on with the company work for . When you are making six-figures you start to get worried . Starting to make sure my emergency fund is well funded.

Read a blurb yesterday on the CNBC channel yesterday that business lending should be easier in 2026 which could lead to some new growth.

100K Pay breakdown - Bi-weekly (every two weeks) ~$3,195 (based on 26 pay periods). This is after taxes, 401k, health insurance is taken out

$3195 x 2 = monthly take home $6390.00

- $2,400.00 Mortgage - Escrow with Taxes/Insurance
- $1,000.00 car loans/maintenance
- $550.00 Car Insurance
- $300.00 Electric
- $250.00 TV< INTERNET, Subscriptions etc
- $600.00 kids (daycare, school )
- $450.00 random debt

Leaves $840.00 "a month" for food and entertainment, ain't nobody getting rich on that

I see kids, why is the other spouse not working in your scenario? This is not the 1950s any longer.

Single person making $100,000 would have less expenses than you listed.

Short of a real career, the cost of childcare can render mom working as nearly useless.

That was the case in my house.

It's a hypothetical, there's no way to list everyone's individual unique expenses.

But it's close to my situation

Buy a smaller house/fixer upper in a less desirable area.

if you're living pay heck to paycheck, maybe don't buy a $50,000 car that you have to insure and don't blow $250/month on internet/ subscriptions.

You can get a nice used vehicle for under $15k but I guess the Jones' aren't going to keep up with themselves.

If you're spending $250/mo on subscriptions and complaining about not having money left over, maybe realize your stupid habits are the problem.

Wonder how 100k earnes in here complaining about being "survival mode" bought momma a new 80k Yukon because no way she was going to be seen in the private school pickup line in a 10yo minivan?

Most of the worlds population would literally kill to be in the usa making 50k a a year. Literally kill.

Probably not many, if any, but I'm sure it makes you feel better to rail against them.

What a great mindset!

Instead of trying to bring the standard of living up for everyone, let's bring us down to third world levels.

That dovetails nicely with the influx of foreign workers bringing down salaries.

Not inflation.

Inflation did not do this.

Joe Biden and the Democrats did this. ON PURPOSE

I make a hell of a lot more than 100k and I only ever buy low mileage used cars for 1/2 what they sold for new and also have no TVs or TV subscriptions.

I got "rich" buying the ugliest houses in their respective neighborhoods and fixing them up.
