I've asked you like 8 times what time period you were referring to when you said people didn't use to take regional weekend vacations and you refuse to answer every time? I wonder why.

Can you be more specific? How many a year, where, and for how long?
Posted on 11/20/25 at 2:42 pm to UptownJoeBrown
Johnny posted multiple times a trip to Georgia to see family / friends.
Did this not happen at all in 1984?

My family used to take weekend trips to Panama City when I was a kid. We lived in LaGrange Georgia. This was late 1970s and early 80s. They were both cotton mill workers so “lower middle class”. Couple a year. Every few years we would take a longer trip somewhere. We also used to do a good many weekend camping trips at one of the states lakes.

so you married?
you said you didnt have kids
and you have bragged about living a hermit lifestyle
but who gives af about that
address my other post with real numbers. I laid it out there for you
want me to do groceries or gas too?
what about a cell phone and internet being pretty much required now a days to have a job?
you must have insurance and now many companies require certain amounts if they pay you any type of allowance
shall we talk about the increase in healthcare cost or cost of health insurance?
what about increase in taxes that go along with the increase in housing prices? or the cost of insurance on a house?
what about cost of having kids compared to back then? daycare cost?

so you make "alot" more than 100k, dont have kids and cant understand why those that make what you do with kids are having a hard time?
i highly doubt you make "alot" more than 100k. you have shown your lack of critical thinking skills in this thread. Your iq certainly isnt over 100, that we can all tell.

No I didn’t.
I see your ranting and not even trying to hear what I’m saying. All I’m saying is people spend too much money on things today that they didn’t used too. Inflation isn’t the only reason why, as the thread title says, people are struggling.
I’m not saying inflation hasn’t happened. There’s always inflation. Sometimes high and sometimes low.
You and Mingo are taking it personal and it never was.

average family vacation in 1995 cost ~$1,550 for a week long vacation for a family of 4 within driving distance. that would be ~$2,900 in todays dollars. that covered, gas, hotel, food and entertainment
do you think a family of 4 could go on a week long vacation with what I described for under 3k? Its possible but would be something like a camp in grand isle if lucky
ftr the average family of 4 took 2.1 week long vacations in 1995
all of this shite can be found on google in the archives
sounds like you grew up poor, around other poor people and not middle to upper middle class people. You assumed that was normal when it wasnt.

Well if I tell you much more than people would probably guess who I am.
There we go again with insults.
I do have a law degree. I have said that before.

This is not what you said

I don’t really give a shite what you say. You’re childless at 55 years old so you’re thought process isn’t rooted in the reality of the super majority of people and you’re too stupid to understand that.

Be specific.
Don't say drop the cell phone and internet. Those are required now in 2025.
You think we should all be hermits who do nothing but sit at home and eat beans and rice, and that watching baseball or football games is gaudy, extravagant spending.

Wrong again. Well the first part growing up, I would actually say lower middle class money wise. But all the neighbors were doctors, lawyers, dentists, engineers, etc. and grew up with their kids.

you keep sayign this...but its wrong. i just showed, the average family of 4 took 2.1 week long vacations in 1995
do you think 1995 tiger stadium wasnt filled with blue collar plant workers?
think 1995 astros or oilers or saints games were not filled with blue collar types?
i do agree people could live like 1995 and live with 1 car, 1 cell phone, never eat out except once per week, kids only in public school, chill at home on the weekends bbq and not leaving, live in a 1200SF house
sure
but the upper middle class didnt have to live like that in 1995, they shouldnt have to today...thats the whole point you dont seem to grasp
