You have made a functionally equivalent argument acting like going to a frickin regular season Astros game is some grand luxury.
Or Johnny going to visit his family/friends in Georgia is some 5 star stay in Italy or France.
These trips were avaialble and accessible to most all families for most of the post-war period.

Very much so as recently as 5-6 years ago… you know, kind of the point of the thread

You paid for the whole procedure up front for both?

I’m about to drop nearly 2,000 dollars for my wife and I to go on a long weekend trip to georgia. Southwest flights, below median hotel costs, cheap rental car and normal food/restaurants. shite is wack.
Try having dogs. It was $350 to board them for 2 nights and have baths.

Will the boarder take toddlers?

Do you have a family to provide for?
Anyone responding to this thread above the age of 50 and/or without a family to provide for shouldn’t even have an opinion. At 50 you were afforded enough time with reasonable earning and costs to save enough money to be comfortable. Without children you have no clue what you’re talking about.

Unless you got extremely lucky in buying a forever home on zippo rates, who has a 3-4BR home for a family with a mortgage less than $3,500 anywhere that is substantially populated?
We moved further East in Dallas out of our 3-2, 1800 sqft home to a house that is 1000sqft bigger, bought for the same price as we sold and our mortgage is almost double at 6.75%.
We’re not “hurting” but with daycare coming at $1500/month, it’s not sunshine and roses with what my wife and I make combined. 10-15 years ago, at our salary, we’d be building significant wealth. There’s basically no reality where she could consider not working.
We have a $400 car payment that will be paid off next year and I drive a paid off 10 year old Jeep GC.
This economy is legitimate problem. I estimate our net worth will be 1/3 to 1/2 what it could have been had we started our family 10-15 years ago. I hate to think about folks in Dallas who are right at 6 figures. They’re “fine” but the wealth building opportunity at that income range has substantially declined from what it was.
Weird times ahead… hopefully we get our parents 1985-2025 wealth building opportunity but hard to see it from where I sit now.

Shouldn’t have done that. But I’m sure there is a reason to fully justify it.

I think some of yall were on a sugar high from Covid money and tax credits. I know quite a few people who definitely made out like bandits who didn’t need it. They spent it.

Dogs and cats.
If we go away for a long weekend, it's the cost for renting wherever we are staying + 700 for boarding animals. It's why we are looking at RV's.

As I said, the goal of American society should be 2 college educated 40 year olds should never be able to upgrade their house or take a vacation or have anything nice.
It ultimately comes down to you’re 55 years old and have never had anyone to provide for but yourself because you couldn’t find a woman to have sex with you.
Which considering how stupid you are, really shouldn’t surprise us

Sounds like you live in an area you can barely afford. $1500/month for daycare is absolutely ridiculous.
