Yep put an end to it 20years ago, after a guy was killed crossing fla on a motorcycle... had no idea a couple of guys started an impromptu drag race and went to cross, never saw them

They should hang a steel cable over the road where they race

Why don't they just open source the problem as a group and solve it themselves. Not easier said then done, more interesting done than said.

So, glued to electronics. It makes sense.

why not mitigate the problems associated with drag racing by giving them an area to do it?
So you are proposing that the city provide an area where people can do something that is inherently dangerous?
I'm sure there wouldn't be any lawsuits when something bad eventually happened.

He’s proposing the city provide a 1/4 or 1/2 mile dead straight and smooth road for kids to race on with someone managing it and maybe even providing an insurance waiver to sign so the property owners aren’t fully liable.
If only such a place existed already. Even if it’s like 20 or 30 minutes from the city.

Yep, spent many Saturday nights there... When Fl. blvd got to hot to race we'd heard to Choctaw..

What the Rouge needs to do perhaps is designate a place where it’s easier for these young people to meet and drag at their own risk or whatever, and get them away from neighborhoods and businesses. They’re going to do it. So, why not mitigate the problems associated with drag racing by giving them an area to do it?
You just gave me my million dollar idea...I’m going to call it a drag strip. It’s a catchy name. I picture 2 lanes side-by-side, separated by a short concrete wall.

Drag racing on Choctaw?. That's as old as time itself.

There are several race tracks to do it. The only reason this is so popular to do in town is because it's illegal, which makes it more exciting.

Street racers view drag strips as a prepared surface for unskilled pussies. Everything about racing on the streets is more challenging... from the shitty surface to the law. Thats why they will never go to a track

Cant haze pledges, can't wear black face, cant have handjobs by old Asian women and now we cant race?!

Sounds like all you want to do is shoot down every logical, legal alternative people are giving you just because you want to street race and be cool.
Maybe you should start a business, or just STFU.

They should go to race wars in the desert instead

If you cant do something legal and safe to do in a town the size of BR, that's on you, not the city. It's not the world's responsibility to entertain you. There are kids in NYC right now bitching about being bored. It's what kids do.
Yea I was bout to post "how old are these people with nothing to do".
I mean 25 yrs ago sure.
But now any given day of the week you can find the following till at least 10pm every night:
100+ sports bars/grills
pool halls
skate parks
rock climbing
running/biking paths
movie theaters
live music
top golf
barcadia
bowling alleys
college sports almost year-round LSU/SU/BRCC(baseball now)
Bookstores/Coffee shops

This and some are into roll racing, which you can't really do on the track.
These tracks like mentioned regularly have their street nights. Between SCR and NP nearly every weekend they have their "test and tune" or street night. Which either way you can race. test and tune nights you can run unlimited and its only 30 or so bucks. Hell they even do no-prep nights to even further make it closer to street racing.
30°00'19.7"N 90°00'23.8"W google, these coordinates. Almonaster is a famous spot for street racing

At State capitol its every Wed and Sat night, around 30 bucks to race. 10-15 buck to watch.

I used to do this 20 years ago growing up in Central FL. I guess it will never go away. As a 17 yr old, it was more fun because it was illegal. It wasnt even completely about the races. It was the slightly dangerous, and social aspect of it. Was always more fun to go to the street races than the track.
