Grew up in a small town. Racing went on at a couple of quarter mile venues on two lane highways in the country. A lot of it went on after midnight when guys were drunk. Some guys raced for car titles.

They held drag races on Sundays at an airport out from Haynesville. Raced over there a couple of times. Don't think the airport was open as an airport at the time. It may have been private.

There are plenty of guys out there with the level of expendable income to do this as a hobby. One of my friends is a Holley EFI systems distributor as well as installs and tunes the stuff, some of his clients can spend five to six figures a year on this hobby with ease. They'll have a dedicated track car and a street car (or several) to mess around with.

You know how affordable a second hand mustang or camaro is? With the assistance of nitrous, it’s easy and affordable to have an 11 second car.

Active duty military guys have plenty of disposable income, early 20's to mid 30's that can spend a few grand a year on bolt-on parts for their cars. Not hard for them to afford newer sports cars either. It's not hard really, you can buy someone's old project for cheap if you look around.

Located near Birmingham, Al. Near me is a drag strip where there are test runs and time trials on Thursday evenings. Once weather warms up it opens and it is $5 to watch and $15 to race. 5pm to 10pm. You can haul a vehicle to race or drive the family car and get at it. I’ve seen dragsters, pro stock, backyard projects, quads, superbikes, junior dragsters, and an occasional dirt bike just getting their 1/8th mile stats. On Saturdays they host the real races. It is awesome!

Anybody remember Michoud and Old Gentilly? Racing rockets in front of rockets. Being chased off by NOPD only to end up at the end of Hayne Boulevard doing the same thing? Rinse and repeat all night. I think it was as much fun for nopd as the people participating.

If you want to have an argument about possible destruction to private and public property, then that's a different debate to have.

Man, you Boomers are so hypocritical. Y'all downvoting the shite out of these young kids drag racing and some guy post a picture of some ugly arse 70s muscle car and everybody starts having Golden Age syndrome flashbacks and nuts themselves and he has an undefeated upvote record.

Except when they don't or did you not see the earlier post of somebody getting killed in one of these street races? There are thousands of videos of street races where somebody lost control and ran off the road.

I imagine you don't have a clue. People who are aware of the risks abd actually care about the potential consequences take it to a drag strip where there are safety measures in place. Where nobody is oiling down a public road when their POS throws a rod or grenades a differential. It's a stupid mentality only defended by those of similarly weak minds.
