It was a spur of the moment roadside confrontation with officers from multiple agencies. The opportunities to organize it weren’t plentiful.

I gotta disagree with this in the first situation at least. The officer that seemed to be in charge at the scene stated there were at least eight officers on the scene. Given the video showed at least 6-7 with guns drawn I think it overkill in that they knew early on there was just one person in the vehicle. From what I saw they had plenty of time to box him in with two vehicles which means the ensuing highway situation never occurs. Still leaves you with a 6-1 advantage.

Instead the perp cranks up his car, leaves and thus results in the even bigger cluster-f on the highway.

Granted, I have no police training, so I'm merely looking at this from a common sense point of view, FWIW

This is pretty evident.

1) you dont box cars in....that puts you out in front of all the guns...police and bad guys...you stay back and work behind cover.

2) and you dont spread out 8-4....you work behind your cover....you have no idea what he is armed with. You stay behind with rifles except for whoever is handcuffing and call them back to you.

And what was the crime that prompted the use of such overkill?

That was the poorest handling of a stand off situation I have ever seen. WAAY too many guns out to deal with for one fricking a-hole.

At start of video it was ridiculous that they didn’t box in his car with cop vehicles after the first minute or two.

At the roadside stop there should have been a rifle at 8:00 and 4:00 to deal with the perp with a max of three duty pistols covering 7-5. Why the handler sent the K9 is a mystery with all the loose cannons there. If he was to be sent you have the bulk of the cops put there guns at the ready and not at the perp to protect the K9 from exactly what happened.....with a long gun at 8 to protect the k9 if the guy shoots at him.

Possibly have the long gun take out the pitbull with a clean shot and then send the K9.

Either way that was a total cluster-f the way it was handled IMHO

You definitely stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

The K-9 had waited its whole life to implement its training. It was programmed and brainwashed to attack on command and go get his some when the cue came. But it never went down like that in the countless practice sessions with his handlers. It was supposed to be an easy take down, a little mauling fun while the batons started swinging in unison before he was pulled away. That’s how he thought it was supposed to go. But in his quarantined life as a LEO agent, he never had the chance to know the human measurement of intelligence known as IQ. He never once imagined that the very people he entertained for 2 years by tearing up dummies and scratching car doors would be the very ones who shot him and killed him.

Yeah, no shite. Thankfully you’re not a cop, because you’d be horrible at it.

Why have a K-9 unit if you’ve got several cops with M4’s?

Also, why do everyday cops have M4’s? Is Oroville controlled by cartels?

Can you please start a March that will lead to a city wide riot? We haven't had a good one in years.

Edit to add:

There's a not bad looking female deputy on the scene...her last name is Barker...

In case he flees on foot....K9 handler probably though he was exiting to run so he sent the dog...then the guy raised a perceived weapon
