Anyone know what race each pilot is?

Doesn’t matter, the plane was just transitioning to a helicopter.

How, exactly, do you do that on a perfectly clear day?

Ever drive I-10???? How tf do they manage giant accidents on straightaways in broad daylights? People being out of touch and probably dicking around on their phones.

This seems impossible to happen unless they are playing on their phones like the passengers

Haven't looked at a taxi diagram to see where this happened, but many airports have restrictions on which taxiways can be used by airplanes with wingspans larger than X, adjacent taxiways can only be used simultaneously by 2 aircraft if their wingspans are less than X, etc.

Possible Ground Control could have messed up and issued taxi instructions that weren't valid/authorized or something. Possible Regional jet stopped somewhere aircraft don't typically stop? Possible one or both aircraft weren't on the centerline of an established taxiway? Regardless, if you're not 100% sure you have wingtip/tail clearance you should probably slow/stop and confirm.

Can it be repaired assuming nothing else was damaged?

I rode in a crj900 it’s pretty nice.

Sucks to be the people on board the flight to Tokyo. They were just getting ready to take off on a long arse flight and now they've got a long arse delay as well.
I’ve flown that route.

Over 14 hours flight time as I recall.

It went well with a tail on the plane.

tails are overrated, only reason for a tail on a transport is takeoffs, landings, and engine outs

I was told by a delta pilot I know that the A350’s don’t normally taxi right there.
Blancolirio did a video already and assuming the CRJ was on the hold short marker they would have 40 feet of clearance

Yeah I would be so pissed off. I get infuriated with a 30 min delay

More concerned about the people in the tower.

we have a really good tool for taxiing called AMM which includes an icon with your position and a moving map, it’s great but a work in progress, it shows wingtip restricted areas but doesn’t show aircraft length restricted areas, it has to be cross refererenced with the-9 Jepp pages, I’m sure Delta has the same, curious to see how this plays out

At least they were in the states where they would he allowed to disembark.

Pre-covid i was on a Delta PEK to DTW.

We were locked and loaded early. They unhook the cart, I’m pumped because that means i’ll get to Detroit early.

APU dead as a hammer.

China refuses to allow us to disembark because of customs. They didn’t rehook the electrical. It was a hot as blazes Bejing night.

One hour turns into 7 hrs. Finally they get the APU fixed. Stewardesses are pissed because Pilots demand to fly.

Delta gets approval to encroach on Russian airspace so we can get out quicker but we can only to Seattle.

I get home a full day later than I was supposed to.

I learned that day to never get my hopes up if it appeared we were going to depart early.

Could you imagine the people that don’t like to fly and had already downed a Xanax for this flight. Now the Xanax is gonna kick in and they’re gonna be in waiting area either sleeping or no cares. Even worse would be the people that may have taken a sleeping pill for the long flight.

If the regional was told to hold short of 8R and didn’t pull all the way to the HS line then a 350 wasn’t going to clear the tail behind it, even if it was on centerline.

So who’s at fault here? The CRJ pilot for not pulling up far enough?

The 350 pilot who didn’t recognize the wingspan wasn’t going to clear?

Or the ground controller who didn’t catch the conflict issue while distracted dealing with all of the aircraft they are responsible for at a time?

Too much undetermined to really point fingers at this point.

There is a modern family episode on this and it's hilarious.
