They were actively navigating through weather to avoid major cells. And she's texting during this time where their conduct likely leads to the catastrophic deaths of 7 passengers. And y'all are cool with it?

You clearly didn't listen to the audio of you believe she had time to text him AFTER things went sideways

Looks like there is an active airworthiness directive for this type of aircraft. Clearly, they knew about the dangers of icing on this type of aircraft.
1. AD 99-16-03 — Horizontal Stabilizer Anti-Ice System
Issued: August 2, 1999
Effective: September 7, 1999
Affected models: Learjet 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 31, 55, and 60 series.
Unsafe condition: Undetected ice accumulation on the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer.
Potential consequence: Severe flight-control buffeting, loss of pitch control, and reduced controllability.
The AD required inspection of the horizontal stabilizer anti-ice electrical wiring, installation of identification straps, and warning placards.

Does ATC or whoever help with navigating through the weather or is it solely on the pilot to ask for changes?

You must not be cool under pressure. At all.
It's not like she was going through a detailed grocery order with the boyfriend...

They’re cool with the 20 year old texting girl boss until it’s them and their families on the plane.

They had passed around the thunderstorm. The cell that they flew through had just popped up and are typically not active at their altitude.

Do they all text their boyfriends while navigating through inclement conditions?
Nobody knows for sure, but I would guess that she wasn't the first and won't be the last to do so.

I did listen and there was certainly time. 90 seconds.
Never said she texted while the plane was nosediving...thought maybe just before...I don't know.
But, now I know it was 10 minutes before the crash.

ATC helps but it's the pilot in command's responsibility to navigate safely.
Since they were IFR they need clearance to deviate though.

Who put a woman in the cockpit? End this barbarianism.

Taken from someone on redditt, TIFWIW
quote:
u/Thepointspilot:Pilot here. Icing and moderate turbulence lead to a phenomenon called Mach tuck. It is common in Learjet 60’s and older Learjets. Essentially, you exceed the maximum airspeed at altitude and it is unrecoverable to the point that you continue to speed up while not being able to produce lift with your wings. Further description: (your coefficient of lift eventually moves too far behind the wing making it impossible to produce lift, this causes the aircraft to lose altitude like a falling dart, in turn gaining airspeed and crashing. All Pilots are aware of this, some just push too close to the maximum speed threshold, and when you experience clear air turbulence or other factors like icing that would push you too far past the maximum speed threshold without the capability to control the wing normally, this happens. Wrap up: icing changes the shape of the wing critically and adds weight to plane (double whammy, but mainly airflow issue over the wing), Learjets are vulnerable to over speed situations because of the type of wing is small, sleek, and unforgiving in the name of efficiency and performance, mix all of that together with moderate turbulence which can fluctuate your airspeed, this causes the aircraft to enter Mach tuck over speed condition. The result is a lawn dart scenario that you see here. Very sad.

Let's go over all the men who have piloted a doom flight.
We can ban them and no one will be able to fly us anywhere.

Because I want trained, paid pilots with 7 passengers on board to navigate fricking severe thunderstorms without being on their phones means I'm not cool under pressure?
Y'all wild

Even if the auto pilot is doing most of the work. Texting during this situation is indefensible.
People talk about mishaps occur when “the holes in the Swiss cheese lineup“
This was a stack of 70 slices and they all lined up.

More than likely the boyfriend was tracking the flight since he’s a pilot as well. He fired off a text asking about the weather. She responds - just some mild turbulence but we’re around it.
