Where are you getting that the shift to R33 was due to traffic on R1 rather than winds? I cant get the full audio to play. So, just trying to avoid disseminating bad data if the reddit transcription I posted above is erroneous. If so, I want to delete ASAP.

The runway switch was also not necessarily because the departing plane didn’t get off Rwy 01 quickly enough. There is a line of airplanes holding short of Rwy 01 waiting to takeoff. Moving the RJs to 33 creates a hole so the tower controller can position an airplane on 01 waiting to blast off. One of many tricks the outstanding controllers there have at their disposal to try to facilitate the huge number of operations they handle

Also of note, the very next inbound American flight - unaware of what had just happened - requested a circle to 33 as well.

Here’s another. Of course, these takes get thousands of views. This guy flies a single engine seaplane, & based on his profile and other posts - likely never even landed at a Class B airport, but here he is… dishing out bad info as “expert opinion.”
I once played Microsoft Flight Simulator and crashed the plane before ever getting off the ground. Here’s my take:

It’s partially accurate. 33 often allows for a much quicker taxi to the gate, without having to stop & wait for clearance to cross another runway
That might be true, but AA5342 did not ask to move to R33, they were asked to move and took them about 20-30 secs to confirm

Trump about to give a briefing about the crash.

AA3130 was going to land on R1

I've been watching a lot of this guy's channel, Pilot Debrief. I think he's an ex fighter pilot and he breaks down aviation disasters to explain what went wrong and what should have been done. I don't know if it was confirmed that the helicopter never responded to requests to watch for the plane, but there are a lot of instances where someone switches to another channel, forgets they did, and will call back to ATC requests but nothing gets heard.
Pilot Debrief
He goes over the RFK Jr crash and the one that kill Carley McCord. Both of those were due to not enough experience flying IFR (Instrument Flight Rules).

Agree, I thought the ATC mentioned the wind when asking the pilot if he wanted to switch runways.

It’s a helicopter chart. The bar over the 200 means mandatory 200’ restriction or below

You are correct. Shortly after the crash you hear another JIA check in for RWY 1 and request a circle to 33. Thats what I was thinking of.

I wonder when we might get any more statements or a briefing from the NTSB.

I heard NTSB will speak this afternoon.

The very next plane behind aa5342 was aa3130 and they were going to land on R1. Y’all are talking about aa5347 who was way behind asking for R33.

I can't imagine the crosswinds varying too much between 1 and 33. Or dies a 40 degree angle difference matter that much to a pilot?

I'm more shocked the same police who were orchestrating this plan were also the ones who agreed to be shot.
mind you American Airlines has gates to the north side of the airport (close to where you would exit Runway 33).
From south to north its Southwest, Delta, Alaska, others, American. I'm only familiar with Southwest and Delta gates there but I know that American is situated with the north side of the airport.
