I’ve seen where 4 people have been rescued. But this is not a search and rescue anymore. I doubt that after this much time that nobody else has survived. Sadly.

If tweet fails to load, click here. This kind of sums up how I feel. Just seems so so unlikely this would happen, and yet, it did.
Horrific news and praying for everyone involved.

Is it just me or does it seem like we are seeing an increased number of helicopter involved crashes recently?

I assume the CA showing on the ATC screen is "collision alert". Wouldn't the ATC get a warning over his headset,
The CACA goes off and the alarm is normally audible out of a speaker in the tower

Fox News just said military called this a training flight. So, like Driver's Ed, or what?
No. Training can be to practice any type of air space imaginable. They fly anywhere and everywhere on the chance they may have to "really" fly in that scenario. They practice how they fight, so to speak.

20+ dead and you bring up DEI.
No different than liberals campaigning for gun control minutes after a school shooting.

You do realize that military pilots need to practice in night time conditions? This unfortunately a really bad performance for that training exercise.

This happened in breaking bad. Except 2 planes.

There was a departure on Runway One while the the crashed aircraft was on final to Runway 33. The departing aircraft made a turn to the west, I guess for noise abatement.
Departing RWY1, aircraft have to severely bank to the left up along Arlington to avoid restricted airspace. The entire mall area in DC is restricted airspace. Pretty much anything on the DC side of the Patomec

Allow me to say that these threads on the OT is where I'll learn a vast majority of pertinent information and timely information regarding tragedies as these.
The new Twitter/ X has improved in this regard, too, but still I find the OT is still the place to find the best information.
Kudos to all of you....

I put my hand into an icy bucket of water last week and my hand almost instantly went numb. There would be no way I could survive more than a few minutes in an cold, and possibly icy river, and wearing clothes.
You go into shock when exposed rapidly to water that cold and you’d involuntarily start swallowing water.

Watching a live feed from DC Local Fox 5 and their guest expert just said the airplane pilot would get an ORAL collision warning... then realized he probably meant an AURAL collision warning. Perhaps "audible" should be used when not reporting in print.

If tweet fails to load, click here. This makes me think the helicopter was looking at AAL3130 when the ATC told them to fly behind it, and not noticing JIA5342 right in it's flight path

I was commenting on the audio posted of the female controller. I can't help it that it was a female in the video.
Though if it was a recording of a man the video probably doesn't exist. Or this thread.

What would an aircraft have done in this situation if it had even a few seconds to react? The jet was banking and coming in for a landing and it was probably hit from the underside

Blaming the atc alone for this seems a little premature right now. After the investigation clears if it’s proven she could’ve prevented this then sure pile on dei and the like.
Not enough is known to prove that though and the little we do know really makes it look like the helicopter pilot is the one at fault.

It's true standards have been lowered to increase DEI numbers, but until any real light and facts are revealed at a later time, let's table the DEI "conspiracy" talk.
However, I definitely would like to look into it at an appropriate time.
This country needs the best people at every job.
