Size of a city has little to do with theme park viability. Look at places like Cedar Point, Holiday World, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Seems like if you're going to build a theme park that requires people to drive out of their way to get there, why not try someplace like LaPlace that's more central to the entire SE Louisiana population?

Unless they think it's worth salvaging in its current state, but after 11 years of decay, I would expect it to be 90% rebuilt from the ground up.

You can tell they're grasping for straws when they mention Walt Disney in their press release. What does Disney wisely choosing to build elsewhere have to do with the merits of this project? Can't wait to see what public trough the developers will belly up to.

So there are competing myths between livingston parish and new orleans? Impressive.

It's complete bullshite.. Louisiana was never considered in the initial planning. I do have an idea on how the Livingston myth got started.

Unless they build it right next to the FQ, no one will go.

should be very, very nice. Interesting timing though, those condo's might be delivered in a very different market than was originally planned.

They should use the Epcot Model and adapt it to modern day America. Have a Thugland, Hipsterville, Redneck Island, Suburbia and such.

I hate that you are right. I love our state, but sometimes the corruption makes me sick.

Not sure why they want to build in a swamp the chances of that area flooding again are higher than most areas of the city.

Get a bunch of government money to open it, let it flood, collect insurance, abandon it = profit?

1) This will never happen. Several things have said they will do something there and haven't.

2) A resort hotel with beach pool in NOLA East? Lol

3) That shopping mall will be a hell hole.

4) The Walt Disney urban legend down here isn't much more than that. They floated a lot of places, including Louisiana, but Louisiana wasn't under that serious of consideration from what I've heard.

You do realize that Disney World was built on swamp land, so its not out of the realm of possibility.

But Six Flags doesn't have the cache and won't be able to carry the area like Disney World did in Florida. They kept DW a secret for years to keep the price of land surrounding it cheap. Once word got out, everything around it exploded. I don't see this happening. Feels like they are forcing it down people's throats.

Isn't this the 4th or 5th time some announcement was made that it was going to be redeveloped and nothing ever happens??

Wow, that would be a really positive development for the City of New Orleans. So it probably won't be allowed happen.

Hmmmmm...I don't see the NOLA East to downtown BR monorail mentioned anywhere in this press release.

That's a given.

completely different situation happening here. There is already a theme park (sorta) in place.. So price of surrounding land is negligible considering the grand scope of the project would center around the existing park.

B/c the almighty dollar clouds judgment. Disney parks are one of those things if life than can never be duplicated. Many have tried, but none will ever capture the essence. Why I think other theme/amusement parks can survive and make money, I feel this one would be a bad idea.

Hell I've grown up and live around BR my entire life and have yet to set foot in Blue Bayou... But, I have been to Disney 20 plus times.. probably a telling sign..

Well, the St. Claude streetcar is already under construction through the bywater. Plans are in the works for the commuter rail between midcity br(which will be connected to downtown br and LSU by streetcar) and nola cbd which includes stops at Blue Bayou, gonzales, LaPlace, msy, and zephyr. Perhaps there is a plan to potentially expand the st. Claude streetcar line to this development connecting it to the rest of the city and the majority of south louisiana's population and attractions by rail.

I don't think it will ever happen, but this is one way how it could work if it did.
